I'm Back after my 2 year PF break!

AngryHello to all! Well its been since December of 2002 when my last bout ended with these monster of headaches and they usually begin in August but i was better prepared this year and began to drink nothing but water and a occasional soda or lemonade and i thought i was going to beat these episodes of pure hell but then 2 days ago i feel the beast sneeking up my neck into my left side letting me know hes trying to bring the pain back so i walked it off pretty much and it let me sleep all night then yesterday it hit me again in the afternoon and it hit hard and lasted longer then my kast session but after a hour and half it just went away leaving me with very bad neck pain and drained so i went rest of the day doing ok and it let me sleep all night again until just little while ago and bam it stuck again with severe neck and the stabbing of the left side of head and eye and lasted a hour and half again and then i remembered this site. I have been fighting for SSI due to a spinal disease in lower back and i feel it has spread to upper back and neck and is helping to create these monsters but cant get the doctors or authorities to listen or acknowledge what really is going on in my body. I am steadily denied medical card to get anykind of medical attention in this area and it does no good to go to local emergency room because they want to give me a imitrex nasal spray after the headache is gone but wont give you one or two to have to prevent the next bout so i am left to fight these beasts without any kind of relief, i will say the water seems to be helping keep them from happening more often then my last session 2 years ago but if these kick in like then and happen so frequently i dont know if i can stand to much more!! Just wandered if anybody has any suggestions or good advice? Hey i would appreciate any and all who have anything to add or say and i have a feeling i will be around for awhile so talk at ya later!

Ask your doc for a sample bottle of this med. (Print out and take this message with you.) I get 100% relief from an attack within 20-min and, if you have to buy them, the price is much lower, per dose, compared to the triptans.

Olanzapine as an Abortive Agent for Cluster Headache.

Rozen TD.

Department of Neurology, Jefferson Headache Center/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate olanzapine as a cluster headache abortive agent in an open-label trial. BACKGROUND: Cluster headache is the most painful headache syndrome known. There are very few recognized abortive therapies for cluster headache and fewer for patients who have contraindications to vasoconstrictive drugs. METHODS: Olanzapine was given as an abortive agent to five patients with cluster headache in an open-label trial. The initial olanzapine dose was 5 mg, and the dose was increased to 10 mg if there was no pain relief. The dosage was decreased to 2.5 mg if the 5-mg dose was effective but caused adverse effects. To be included in the study, each patient had to treat at least two attacks with either an effective dose or the highest tolerated dose. RESULTS: Five patients completed the investigation (four men, one woman; four with chronic cluster, one with episodic cluster). Olanzapine reduced cluster pain by at least 80% in four of five patients, and two patients became headache-free after taking the drug. Olanzapine typically alleviated pain within 20 minutes after oral dosing and treatment response was consistent across multiple treated attacks. The only adverse event was sleepiness. CONCLUSIONS: Olanzapine appears to be a good abortive agent for cluster headache. It alleviates pain quickly and has a consistent response across multiple treated attacks. It appears to work in both episodic and chronic cluster headache.

Olanzapine has a brand name of "Zyprexa" and is a antipsychotic. Don't be put off by this primary usage. Several of the drugs used to treat CH are cross over applications, that is, drugs approved by the FDA for one purpose which are found to be effective with unrelated conditions--BJ.

If this doesn't work for you, ask him for an Rx for Ergomar. It's about $3/dose and, while no as effective as the triptans, is an old line abortive which can help for some. It was my standby for years. The trick with it is using at the very earliest subtle sign of an attack.

Hey Bill, you in a pinch with the medical card thing. I have read some things about Melatonin on this site that seems to help with the night time episides. From what I understand it can be purchased in health food stores. I'm going looking for it myself today.

I also read somewhere that you may be able to get a hold of Welder's oxygen for a resonable price. Beware, I am new to all this and am still learning myself. Let one of the experts follow up to these suggestions before you run out looking for this stuff.
