Hey Fam'ly Smiley

Just wanted to give a short update (short...I said short...hopefully I can hold to that, esp for Jonny!). Smiley

Don't know any more on the Avascular Necrosis front.  The ortho I saw on Monday wanted to drill my knees and then have me take a medical leave of absence from school and start up where I left off next year.  However, my AVN specialist feels that I can wait until May for the drilling because he doesn't believe it will help or hinder the progression of the disease...only offer pain relief.  So I plan to plug along until May as much as I can!

As far as the neuro...parents went with me to the headache center today.  Still don't feel that our concerns were completely "heard" and not falling on deaf ears, but we did our best!

I'm being taken off Cymbalta and put on Gabitril.  Don't know anything about that med yet, but I will look it up in a few.  He gave me 2 samples of ZomigNS to try because I've never used it before and I need something for rapid abort of clusters when I'm not around my O2.

I'm meeting with a neurosurgeon in February to discuss the occipital nerve stimulator.  They do it the same way they did Unsolved's....a week trial.  Mine will be bilateral because I sometimes get clusters and migraines on my opposite side.  If the week trial is successful, then they will do a permanent implantation.  I know at some point either Unsolved or someone else had posted pictures of what the temporary one looked like...unsolved if you read this, would you mind letting me see the pics if that was you?  My mom would like to see what it looks like for the temp one.  Especially since I'm a girl and they'd shave off part of my hair!!!!

And finally, I am being admitted under the headache/neuro service on December 27th for my usual "tune up" of 1-2 weeks.  This is best for recharging my batteries to continue the fight because it really only ever lowers my daily migraine to a level 3 for a couple weeks, but it is enough to keep me going hopefully straight through graduation!!!

So I'll update if anything changes!  Great time for all this to happen around my b-day (wink wink), Chanukkah, Christmas, New Years etc!!!  My family just loves it hahah...Actually it is my boyfriend who is the most upset about all of it, but that is another story entirely.  I don't really feel like dealing with it right now!

So yeah, this was not short...longer than I thought, but had lots of updates!

Hugz,
Lizzie2/Carrie Smiley

P.S. Sorry I haven't answered PM's lately...things have been a bit hectic and I've been in the major depression mode.  Am starting to feel like I'm going somewhere with the pain now though.   Kiss

Ahh damn I think at least a couple of people know.  I'm kinda celebrating all weekend!  My dad has an office Christmas party on Saturday the 11th which is the actual birthday!  Tomorrow, I'm celebrating with my parents by going out to dinner after I get home from Philly, having cake, and opening presents!  I'm still young enough to get cool gifts! hehehe

Then Saturday, David and I are going out to dinner and celebrating by ourselves.  Sunday, David, my big sis Lindsay, and I are headed up to Penn State to see mine and Linds's former choir (Essence of Joy) do their holiday concert which is ALWAYS amazing!!  Lindsay's boyfriend is meeting us up there.

So it's going to be a blast of a weekend!!!  If I get what I asked for, I may actually be able to scan in a picture of me as a baby...on my birthday!  bwahahaha Wink

OK...now I opened my yap.  Nobody needs to say happy b-day for the weekend since we already started it here!

I'll finally be 24...does that update my status from "kid" to "young adult" yet?????  Hehehehehe

Hugz,

Lizzie/Carrie,
Happy Birthday, I know it seems to just mean anouther year of more pain than before. Remember if you need to talk, I'm still here on IM, well actually I am not, but I will fix that right now. Keep on fighting, we are pulling for you.

Happy Birthday Carrie - I think you should be promoted to young adult but some of the "old timers" may disagree - from the sounds of it you may just be "kid" forever!  Things could be worse!!

Hehe yeah I never minded being the baby of the bunch!  Big Dan only has 6 months on me I think!  There may be a few other posters now who are younger than us, but I can't remember!  I know I've seen a few younger ones here and there!

Anyhow...thanks for the birthday wishes!

Tonight, David and I were on the phone for 2.5 hours, and everything is great now.  He said he had all day to digest the hospital info and all that, and he is fine with it now.  We really talked about a lot of stuff, and things are back to being great with us.

I had been dragging him down lately because I had been so teary/depressed since the ER fiasco the week before Thanksgiving.  However, now that I have a plan for some relief in the near future, getting off the horrid Cymbalta, and the plan to try out the temporary occipital neuro stimulator, I feel much much better.  I think I can go back to my regularly scheduled nuttiness! Wink

Hugz to all and thanks again for the thoughts and birthday wishes!  Doesn't even seem like it is this weekend with all that's been going on!!!!

Well I've class at 9:30, so maybe I should try to sleep....yeah some of us do sleep once in awhile, right??? hehe

Luv y'all,
Carrie Smiley

Thanks for the birthday wishes..today is the actual day although it's been confusing since my parents and I had to celebrate last night!  We went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, and there was even this really yummy piece of apple pie with a candle in it for me! Smiley  I don't eat much anymore (but I plan to once this evil Cymbalta wears out of my system!), but it was still a great dinner! Smiley  I had St. Louis bbq ribs Smiley

For my birthday, I got some money which was desparately needed as my bank account now says $13.00 hahaha  Anyhow...aside from that, I got an all-in-one printer/fax/scanner/copier!  Woohoo!!  It's an HP Officejet 6210.  I'm going to be having fun with this one!!!  Only downside was my dad didn't realize that the USB connector didn't come in the box..haha oh well.  I'll go get one today.  I was too tired to play around with it yesterday anyhow...but I did put the software on my computer!

OK got lots to do because David will be here at 3:00pm, and then he and I are celebrating my birthday on the ACTUAL day by maybe going to the movies and going to dinner.  I am hoping he wants to see Blade Trinity.  He loves vampire movies, and I loved the first Blade.  We'll see! Wink

Hugz to all and thanks again!
