question for the ladies... CH'ers and Supporters

I know this is a CH board yet I have a question regarding something other than CH fo ya.....

It appears that my wife has been getting Migraines that are associated with her menstrual cycle......
Prior to getting her period then during her period she has had these debilitating HA that do not go away and knock her ass out!

The research that I have done seems to validate this yet I was curious if any of the ladies here get this and how they cope or are treated......I know that she needs to get to a doctor.....

It has been 4 consecutive cycles and honestly I feel helpless and I just want to help her the way she has helped me.

Thank you,

Eric

That really sucks, Eric.  Sad Yes she should see a dr. Probably should keep a HA diary. I never had migraines, but many here have both. I'm sure there will be lots of responses. PF wishes to both of you.

From what I have read, Botox seems to be working very well for menstrual migraines.  You might check it out.

Yes, I get those.

I have found a series of triggers have to align. If they do- place a bet in Vegas! You will win big.

Everyone's are different. Mine are: not enuf sleep, not eating right, TOM. (time of month), and some minor things that vary.

If one of these factors is out of my control, I indulge the others.

As said above, keep a ha diary to determine personal triggers.

What a sweetie to want to help the wife.

a friend had this happen. the doc put her on birthcontrol as it was suspected to be caused my harmone imbalance. good news--migranes disappeared.

obviously, this doesn't work for everyone.

good luck to you both. i hope she finds an easy cure like my friend.

Hi Eric

I'm very lucky because I get CH and hormone related migraine.

The suspicion is that it isn't that our hormone levels are fluctuating more wildly than others, more that some women (me included) react more strongly to more minor fluctuations than others. If your wife has blood tests as I did to establish whether her hormone levels are awry, she may find that they aren't.

What works for me is to take large doses (1000mgs per day) of Oil of Evening primrose (GLA) It has been recognised to be a really valuable treatment for PMS, and also I have heard of quite a few female migraine sufferers who have found like me that it helped them too. The good news is that it is also very good for skin, hair and general female health, and there are no real risks from taking it.
The bad news is that certainly over here it can be a bit pricey, and it takes a while to work (couple of months probably)
When I discovered it did work my husband said he was going to buy me a lifetime's supply as it stopped me throwing heavy objects at his head as well as improving the migraines Grin

Yup,
My wife has had hormone related migraines for years and then she has to put up with me to boot  Embarassed

Axert seems to be working for her to abort the migranines for the time being.
