Water Question Pls...

Can someone tell me how, exactly the 'water' Rx works when your hit hard with the beast within mins. Or does it? (Is the water thinning or diluting the blood?) I had two bad ones last nite and this am, I drank approx. 2-3 cups of cold water and in about 20 mins the h/a was pretty much gone. My question: do you think this was the water that did this? (Right now I am DESPERATELY trying to find something that will work, everything else is taking WAAAYYYY to long to kick in and I foresee the ER trips). How many ppl have success with drinking water all day to prevent the beast when in cycle? Thanks, Wendy

HI Wendy, I thought I replied to this but now I don't see my post. I don't know if anyone knows why the water works, but it does (for some of us). I'm chronic and I don't have med insurance right now so I was looking for "natural" ways to help me with the pain. Read about the water thing on here and decided to try. I had already been drinking a lot of water each day but now it's even more. For the past few months I've been drinking at least a gallon (yes, a gallon) of water a day. I have not had a full blown 10 since I started with the water. When I do notice a bad one coming on I realize that I haven't been drinking very much that day and I start guzzling and I can literally feel the pain going away as I'm drinking the water. So, I still get h/a's every day but they are usually around a 5 which I'll take any day over a 10. It's hard at first to drink that much water...you feel like you are going to float away...but you get use to that and you will find that on the days when you don't drink as much water you will feel dehydrated. Hope this helps. Virginia

Wendy - When I feel an attack coming on, I drink a full quart of cold water as quickly as is comfortable - within a minute or two. Two times out of three, this aborts the attack in 5 minutes. When it doesn't, the attack is often shorter and/or milder than usual. I also drink more water than usual throughout the day: beween a half and a full gallon. I spend more time than usual in the bathroom, but so what. It's probably a good idea to take a small multi-vitamin -- children's vitamins will do -- to replace minerals and water soluble vitamins you might be flushing from your system. Why does water work for some? Who knows? My guesses: the cold water in the stomach causes the body to redirect blood to the digestive system, or maybe it's simply that pouring cold water down your throat cools the blood, encouraging the carotid artery to constrict. -tommyD

I reckon the water just flushes out all the crap in the liver and kidneys which I believe is the cause of the CH. At risk of yet more flaming I am certain in my own mind that toxins stored in the body cause CH and eliminating them by such methods as excessive water drinking stops the headaches, hence my strong belief in regular detox to keep the bastards at bay. It works for me so far anyway. I don't think it is "diluting the blood" that helps I year headache free since my first detox! John Glad this seems to work for some.

Dear John, If you are so certain that toxins and other crap stored in the body and mind cause CH, why don't you do us all a favor and do some research on the nature of these "toxins". What are these toxins, where do the come from? Why is it so easy to get rid of them, and at the same time prevent all the good stuff from being flushed out? Do this toxins come from something we eat? If so, it would be worthwhile to find out what it is, so we could avoid CH altogether. Unless you finally give an answer to these questions, we must assume that you just repeat some pseudoscientific babble learned from some quack web sites. As from the 'BePure' site that you once recommended, they too take money for some stuff that helps to get rid of some unspecified "toxins". Just as a reminder, here some excerpts from your previous posts: April 8, 2002: I have 2-3 week episodes ... I have about 12-18 months between episodes ... I am in the middle of an episode now and can still keep working April 10, 2002: I started the Prednisone tapering down regimen 2 days ago April 18, 2002: I now firmly believe that CH is caused by inflamation in the brain, either from something seasonal (pollen?/ climate?) or even some sort of recurring virus. (flushed out by water) - (Here the flushable toxins seem to be a virus or pollen ???) April 27, 2002: I hope this is the end of the current 2 month episode. May 29, 2002: It broke my cycle after about 2 or 3 days and have been pain free for 5 weeks. - That would coincide with the Prednisone taper, hmmm... July 23, 2002: I have episodic CH every year or so which lasts for several months - What a change in only 3 month! from '2-3 week episodes' to 'several month'! not quite a recommendation for the detoxing. Today: I year headache free since my first detox! Or could it be: a year headache free since last eating Easter eggs? Or is your pain free year simply part of the "12-18 months between episodes"? Excuse me John, but your writings are too inconsistent and garnished with nonsensical notions than to convince me for your "detoxication". PFNADs Ueli

yeah, yeah, yeah - I knew you would be first to respond Ueli. You should change your name to Doubting Thomas. I have tried researching the "names" of these so called toxins to no avail, but I actually don't really give a shit what they are called, I believe they exist so that's good enough for me. Thanks for researching my previous posts so diligently. Most were posted when I was suffering big time and looking for a cure. So please excuse any innacuracies, especially those written when I was at the end of my rope. Prednisone has only ever provided less than a weeks reprieve at a time from my CH during cycles. Surely YOU don't believe easter eggs and chocolate can cause CH! I assume you are joking as you so strongly believe in the "deformed hypothalmus" theory. I re-iterate: I have been a headache sufferer all my life, I have had CH, as well as Migraines, so called Tension/Stress Headaches and general moderate headaches on a regular all year round basis for what seems like forever. This past year since I hit upon the regular detox and daily 2 litres of water drinking I have not had a SINGLE HEADACHE. Perhaps this means nothing to you, but it means an awful lot to me my friend. This method may not work for all, but it may work for some. Don't knock what you have not tried. I am surprised you have not yet flamed "potential cluster remedy" recently posted by Spinster. Check it out. John

Hello Wendy. Yes the water treatment works. I drink 3 letres a day during a cycle. It makes them less fequent. Less painfull and in the end it gets rid of them. Dont mess about. You need to drink as much as you physically can drink before you are sick. BELIEVE ME its worth it. Good Luck Girl Michelle x x x x x x

WARNING: If you employ both vigorous exercise and water X 3, do not attempt to do a bunch of sit-ups after downing mass quantities of water. It ain't pretty. -Curtis

Water used to work for me, but it had to be ice cold and I'd slam it as fast as I could. When in cycle I'd always be sipping on water throughout the day and then drink down about 32+ oz as fast as possible. After working for a few years, it slowly stopped aborting them and now it's useless (except for wearing out a path to the bathroom) Take care BruceD
