I'm a new guy from Brisbane, Queensland in Australia.  Have been a sufferer of "something" for about 5 years.  Doctor diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia, but I am starting to think that it maybe CH.  What are the defining differences?

I am 47yo male. Episodes have always (for the past 5 years) come once a year (aug-sept) - last yr didn't have one at all - this yr it occured in April.  They always last about 7-10days for about 1 hour - 2 hrs between 8.30 and 10.30 at night.  Excrutiating stabbing pain behind right eye, right temple and upper jaw - like a bad tooth ache, weeping right eye, running right nostril.  Doctor prescribed Tegretol (for T. Neuralgia) with no affect.

Sounds like CH to me. TN is very painful also but its not a stabbing pain. Its more of a shooting pain from your chin, lips or face towards your temple that lasts only a few seconds per attack. Take the cluster quiz on the buttons on the left of the page and use the search feature for TN to tell you more about it. Read, Read, and then read some more. Welcome Bro! Lots to learn here  .........................andy
