Verapamil and BP

Hi,
If I stopped the verapamil does anyone know how long it would take for my BP to get back to normal? I only just thought that for the last few days I've been feeling really weak and it's bound to be the side effect of the drug.
Thanks for any ideas.

Did you stop suddenly or taper? My understanding is that one should taper off verapamil.

I haven't stopped yet I just thought of it. I've been having one tablet to take in the evening of 120mg slow release. I've spoken to a pharmacist who said it would take about a week for the BP to go back to the normal rate (which is low to start with anyway).
I just hate the way I feel so that even without the attack I feel pathetic. Any ideas would be wonderful.

My advice would be to talk to your dr or pharmacist. I can't stop taking it because I have very high BP. I don't know how you would taper off 1 capsule a day.

Marta, low BP is absolutely caused by verapamil. In my case, taking verapamil has made my low BP lower. I've fainted 6 times...

have you told your doctor about that, Sandi? That's not normal for verapamil and could indicate that you're taking too much or it's lowered your BP too much. Please be careful!
and Marta - if your BP is low to start with, you should NOT be taking verapamil!! It was a drug developed to lower blood pressure, your doctor should know that!!
If you're down to one pill a day, you should ask your doctor if you can just stop taking it. Verapamil tapers are usually three days/step down in dosage.
A lady here at this website suffered a stroke from low BP DIRECTLY related to taking verapamil because it lowered her BP too much!

My third day on verap and I blacked out!
My b/p is 90/60 normally and lower if resting.
Doc told me that day to stop the verap immediately!
I warned him before starting the verap of my b/p levels....oh well, no more verap for me.

You have to ramp up on the drug and yes you should taper off it as well. Though it wont kill you. It is just the advised way to do it.

Definantly should come down off of the drug .... I'm out of cycle but my Neuro has had me on a much, much lower dosage for almost two weeks ... after that I'm home free (til the next cycle -  ) He did give me a handy prescription (with a whole bunch of refills) to keep on hand should I hit another cycle.
