Title: Expired Imitrex
Post by Connie on Oct 11th, 2004, 8:21pm
Has anyone ever used expired imitrex (both injects and pills).  My hubby (James) has so many left over from his last cycle but the expiration is 2001, 2002, 2003.  He uses them anyway (I won't let him use the 2001) and he still gets relief but it scares me.

Anyone else using expired?

Hi Connie,

There have been many threads on this issue in the past.  YES, YES, YES ... it's perfectly safe to take expired Imitrex.  While it may lose a little bit of its potency over time, it doesn't become toxic or anything.

My doc says it's good for at least 10 years.

Best Wishes,

Kris

Eyes taught me all I know about expiration dates.
The only thing the exp date means it hasn't gone thru rigorous, long term testing to determine it's shelf life. That doesn't mean it's degraded, it simply means a drug company didn't want to wait that many years to see if a product is still perfectly fine, when you can be advised to throw it out and buy More, Today.

Unless it's covered in green mold and unidentifiable, it's fine...

If you are worried about using expired imitrex injections then send them to me  [smiley=laugh.gif] I will use them and I don't care how old they are!

Seriously though - keep your valuable trex in a cool dark place and they are good for many years.

As long as it doesn't look like the mutations in my fridge it is safe to use.
