The gastroenterologist found a bleeding tumor and took a biopsy. The conscensus is Colon CCCCCCancer. :'( Spoke with her primary GP and there is no easy answer for this. Said he didn't envy me the decision I have to make. Either way she is at risk. Due to her age and health, the surgery alone could be a big risk, but then so could the tumor growing to the point where it creates a blockage and perforates already weak walls as there is alot of diverticulosis and other smaller polups both above and below the cancerous tumor.

I don't know what to think right now and I hope not to think on this too much more tonight. My brother will be coming up again tomorrow, and the Dr. is going to be around doing piddly stuff all day so the three of us are going to sit down and talk and he'll have Dr. Esser, the surgeon he would reccomend for this, talk to us too if available.

It's a highwire walking act between the risks now, or the risks later.

It's a hell of a weight to carry, because even after talking with my brother the final decision is mine. :'(

Sorry to hear this, Peg. :'( But it is time to let her enjoy her life to the fullest right now, no request is out of line. If she wants to go to Vegas, go. I would have to say IMHO, if the surgery has a chance to improve her quality of life, that would be the side to choose. :-/

I love you Ramon for thinking what she wants..

Mom is a dementia patient...she had no clue what she wants.....in all reality!!!

I'm stuck with the going with ewhat she would want and measuring it with what the family would want...it's a tough row to hoe.

Sorry to hear the news. You do indeed have a difficult choice to make, and I cannot advise either way. We will pray for wisdom for you beyond what you will expect, and then the peace of mind to go with the decision without second thoughts.

I am so sorry to to hear everything your mom and family are going through.I pray for strength to make the decision you must make.I trust your family will know that any decision you make will be out of love and respect for your mom.once a desicion is made please remember that you have done the best you can and it will be in gods hands.

I am so sorry that you and your mother are having to go through this but know that you are not alone in your battle. We are praying for you and your family at this difficult time.

My sister in law went in yesterday for a routine hysterectomy. They were going to leave her overies. When they opened her up they found tumors on both overies. They biopsied them and they were both cancerous so both got removed. They searched for more cancer and found some on her intenstines and removed what they could. I am sure she will have to go through chemo and radiation. She is only 59. What news to wake up to.

Just know we are here for ya if ya need us.

Aw Redd, I am so sorry to hear such news.

But, please, listen to the wise question of Ramon. It's a good one. I know you speak of your mom's dementia. But, without even knowing enough about you or your mother or family, I would venture to guess that your mother made a truly wise decision when she gave you POA. It was for a reason, and that trust still lies with you.

I know it must be rough, but think of what you know in your heart your mother would want. Your decision should be in HER best interest, not that of yourself, or your family.

I pray for you all, and wish you strength.
