I'm trying to find out if anyone has ever heard of or tried a TENS Unit. When I first started having CH I was living in Racine, WI and the doctors there would give me nerve blocks and I also wore a TENS Unit. This was a electronic box with leads attached to it. I would attach the leads to my neck area and send electrical shock to the pain area.. I was in remission for several years once I moved back to Illinois and completely forgot about the TENS Unit when the headaches started again.

As I remember it, the pain wasn't as survere when I wore the unit. I don't even know it they exsist any more, or what they are being used for if they do?

Yes the TENS unit is still out there..but I have never heard of it used on CH..but then again if it helps go for it.

I've heard of these units but the one I saw was used in a much different way.

A friend of mine was having bad nerve problems from some crushed vertabrea and wearing one of these was a part of his therapy.

If it works for you though, go for it.

I was the first person in the US to get a 'bi-lateral Occipital Nerve Stimulator" (trial) implant. It did no good.

I see them used all the time in my line of work. Physio clinics use them for the acute stages of soft tissue injuries and sprains, strains, etc.

They can generally be purchased from any medical outlet store.

I know exactly where to get them in Canada but not sure that would help you any. PM me if you think I can help you to get one.

Thanks guys... you just brought back a thiry year realization... You're all correct.. When I started having CH, was after I had suffered a C-6 Fracture in the neck and the TENS Unit was given to me at that time. DUU, I guest I just forgot exactly what I used the unit for.. Maybe it was for the back & neck pain and not the headaches...

It's not bad getting old, it's just so damn inconvenient.

I have a TENS machine, I use it for back pain from bone disease. I can't imagine that it would help for CH for one minute. I think the pulsing fromt hat would be the final straw but for back pain... nothing better!!

For the TENS thing to work, there'd have to be a Hairless factor involved. In order for the contacts to make.....er....contact.......does one shave "spots", or the whole damned head? And then, where would you place the electrodes? Over the eye, and on the temple? Under the eye, and on the back of the skull? What's the proper setting before you do an inadvertant lobotomy? I sure don't know. Got a real SUPER TENS shock unit here, but every time I use it other than directed, things go awry. As much as I'm into Guniea Pigging, Head shocking isn't something I want to toy with, even tho the batteries are rechargable.

How `bout a nice game of chess....

My mother had one post surgery (removed half a lung) for helping alleviate surgery site pain . . . . was most beneficial....it was 91' and they were fairly new there at that time.
Accupuncturists use a similar device with clips that clamp on the needles.

nancyc . . . . have you asked about TENS unit yet?
