I do think I miss the old days more and more. We were still standing around pissing on each others feet, but at least we were all on the same side.

And no Ree, I don't think your ass looks fat in that picture...... ;;D

As always, Wendy makes a good point.

If I were not a member, that thread would make me think.

Not quietly, Bob.  Some of them might go out in a blaze of glory.

Okay folks…..here more than my two cents… it’s my professional opinion.

I have volunteered my time for many non-profit organizations. I have been a PR consultant, run events, fundraisers, and alumni weekends. I currently played a pivotal role in launching a 2 million dollar endowment campaign, which came out of the box with over 1 million dollars already donated. I’ve dealt with my fair share of pee-on to millionaire egos, BoD’s and volunteers.

And this is what I’ve found to be my experience. I am not taking any sides or criticizing anyone People, I don’t care who they are, people have some fundamental issues with change. It hard to digest even if it means good things are on their way. Sometimes that won’t be seen for a while.

Here are a couple of things I’ve learned.

1. People like to know where there money is going. I don’t care if it’s the Rori Lockman Box-o-Paper Clips or the Frank Weeden Post-It Note….people need to know exactly where their $$ are going.

2. Communication is key. Even if it’s in disagreement. No two people are will approach the same issue the same way. If you know where each other stands, you can agree to disagree and then figure out a middle ground for the good of the organization. US and THEY mentality exists only if we allow it.

Yes, I am a member of OUCH. And even if I don’t agree with everything they do, I know that I would have trouble offering constructive criticism if I were not a member. (I also have trouble with people that criticize our government and don’t vote) So for me canceling membership, though it would send a message, is not an option at this time.

There are old times and new timers here according to some and I respect that. Still, the old timers need to understand that they were once newbies, albeit six years ago. And the new timers might find it very helpful if they called up the old folks for some advice.

Organizations go through periods if waxing and waning…it’s just the nature of the beast.  (yes, I know I said beast) People understandably take things to heart because they’ve poured their heart into it. Apple carts get overturned, and perhaps that is a good thing because with out that change will never happen. I think we all agree that the status quo is not what we want, especially in the area of communication. And from what I’ve read in the past few days OUCH has done some very good things that we need to recognize as well.

I, for one appreciate the passion on both sides of the aisle. I just hope it doesn’t do in an organization I feel has a lot of potential.

May you all be well and Pain Free,
Rori L. Lockman (lionsound)

Well, it certainly does seem that the members don't matter anymore. No elections, no opportunity to give suggestions, people asking questions being treated like errant children, vague answers, all the secrecy... There's no longer any impetus to be involved, to "row," to donate, to volunteer, or to be a member. The most frustrating thing is that it just doesn't have to be this way. I feel like a fool for even caring enough to speak up. *sigh*

Well said, Rori. The things you've pointed out are very much, the heart of the situation.

Check the OUCH boards...there's some communication happening over there.  Hmmm...funny....members have always had that forum to ask and get questions answered.

and isn't it tragic that long-standing members have to make asses out of themselves here in order for that communication to finally happen?  ::) Questions aren't being answered, Nani - we're being thrown bones.

Good post, Rori - REALLY good post.  OUCH needs more people like you.

No offense because you know I like you...but that's being blind to the situation.

Much goes on that the membership at large (or even those who are nonmembers but still give of their time and money) has no idea about.

When the BOD and officers are held accountable, WE get treated like we are ignorant children.

Look where that auction thread went bad.  Who started the childish behaviour?  Really take a look.

Just because some of us choose to question things and not act like lemmings off a cliff does NOT make us bad people.  We care about the way things are being handled...and I think because some of us care so much...that's why tempers are flared.

Carrie
