"Pituitary tumor.  NOT debilitating."

That's what she said and I am so angry that I'm 8 hours away and can't be there. (I'm getting hit almost every hour now)

Cat...I am thinking about you and wishing I was Cathi right now, who lives there and could help you out and sight-see with you and etc. etc. etc.

Damn!

Linda

Thanks for all the well wishes and vibes folks.  Linda, don't fret, I won't be going to Oregon after all.  Despite what the specialist in Oregon has said (that this is a serious problem and needs the attention and workup of pituitary specialists) my GP and now my neuro have decided this is incidental and are refusing me the referral and the workup.  Sooooo it's the end of the line I guess.

I've got my thumb out for the next hitchhiker in the galaxy, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Love you all, many of you are very special and dear to my heart.

Guess I'm not tough enough for these folks to be this stupid.

Damn Cat....  I wish they would just listen to you and DO something!!!  Despite the fact that it's true most pituitary tumors/masses/cysts/etc are usually harmless, it STILL could be part of the problem, given what you've told me on the other thread about all your symptoms.  That pisses me off that they won't help you. :(  I wish you could get a new doc...without having to go through the VA. :(

I'm not kidding when I say we have the most kick-ass neurosurgeon up here - as far as bedside manner goes.  And I'm pretty sure he's an excellent neurosurgeon.  Wish I could just smuggle you in to him.

My neuro told the NP to tell me that he's not even doing a dedicated sella study of the pituitary to determine if my pituitary mass is a cyst or a microadenoma (mine is 5mm)...he's just watching it for 3 more months, and I'm supposed to get a blood test for my prolactin levels.

Just out of blind curiosity, did they test prolactin levels??

Did you ever get an answer about the calcification???/

Hugz and vibes sis,
Lizzie

Ok, it seems we may have actually found a way to work around the system by using the system.

Lizzie, the pituitary specialist at OHSU has already reviewed my imaging reports and files.  His opinion is that there is definitely pituitary disease of some form going on, however he can't tell me what kind until they have a full and complete work up and assessment done - and it has to be done by a pituitary specialist as many of the 'regular' tests will not show certain kinds of pituitary disease.

The problem is that my GP CAN'T give me a new referral to OHSU because the local base hospital policy is that they will not pay for ANY out of area specialty appts.  If my GP were to give a direct referral, the hospital commander would deny, regardless of what Tricare would or wouldn't allow.

We have been able to get Tricare to change an existing referral I have with a local specialist, to the doc at OHSU.  OHSU is part of the tricare network, so they don't care about changing it.  There is no way to get an appt with a provider outside of a) the tricare network and b) outside of the triwest region.

So, as soon as he gets the letter from Tricare listing him as the specialist, we can go ahead and book the appt, and then we will just have to figure out a way to pay to fly out there and stay there.  That is going to be the hardest part, since it's possible I will need more than one trip out there.  We've talked about it, and we will probably end up selling the house and lots of other things (anyone wanna buy some children? only slightly used...) in order to pay for this.

That may seem crazy to people, but there is a very real possibility this could result in death if it isn't resolved.  It nearly cost my life last year when I had the intestinal paralysis - we now know that and many other things (possibly even the cardiac issues) are a direct cause of the pituitary disease.  So, to save my life, in more ways than one because I don't choose to hang around without quality of life, I suppose it's worth selling the house and losing much of what we've worked for.  It's not much good having a house and an education etc. when I could end up not being around to enjoy it.

Sooooooooooo if all of you work your Clusterville miracle magic, then maybe, just maybe we can get this appt to go through.

Thanks everyone for the support, you have no idea how grateful I am to have everyones vibes, prayers and support.

Cat
