Title: another newbie
Post by jeremy on May 11th, 2004, 1:24pm
Hello there fellow sufferers,

My story:

I'm 47, my first cluster was about 25 years ago. They were very bad originally, mis-diagnosis, etc. My father ( a Dr. ) was a regular migraine sufferer in his youth so I spent years going down the wrong avenue. I actually found out what my problem was years ago myself. My father had given me a book to read by the brilliant Oliver Sacks who funnily enough had written a book on migraine. In the book, he had a short chapter titled ' migraneous uralgia' ( sp?) which perfectly described my cluster headaches. To this day it is one of the best descriptions I have read, complete with gory details.

Anyway, it didn't really help as I still wasn't being given the right treatments for me. I remember sansert, beta-blockers, all kinds of things that made little or no difference.

Over the years I've had clusters on and off, I even had a seven year remission which was terrific. The worst was in 1985 when I had a year of one or two a day with no effective treatment - pure hell - if there is anything I could say to people who are currently in a similar state to what I was in back then, I have nothing but huge respect for their strength and suffering.

I'm back in a cluster now. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because when I discovered Imitrex three clusters ago, I couldn't believe it. For me it is almost a miracle. I almost weep with delight when I feel the pain back-off from maximum to nothing in one minute flat, despite the depression that follows.

Just thought I'd stop lurking and say hello.

Canucks in '05.

Hi Jeremy and welcome.

Have you looked into oxygen therapy?  It's also been a Godsend for many.

C'mon over and visit us at O.U.C.H. Canada - we started our website in January of this year and have a number of Canadian clusterheads there now.  We have a message board like this one and, uh, we've also got a hockey pool on the go!!   http://clusterheadaches.ca

GO FLAMES GO!!  Canucks in '05, indeed!   ::)

Well, just don't stand around out there looking in the windows, wipe your feet and come on in.

Welcome to the website.

Gator
