Title: Has anyone gone to the wrong Doctor? Post by karenannie on Jul 22nd, 2005, 10:33pm :) Hi This is a very informative site. I believe I will check here often. I recently went off of Roxy Codone. I was prescribed for these headaches 24-7 for 9 months. At first it seemed to work, as time went on I developed muscle cramps in the rest of my body. If I didn't take the medication as often as prescribed, I felt creepy and could not sleep, I felt like I was not able to accomplish anything. It was very hard on my family as well. I have been out of the hospital now for 15 days. I still do not feel totally normal. Detox is terrible. I have a new pain clinic to visit that uses different methods for chronic pain management. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten hooked on the wrong prescription, or been sent to the wrong doctor? :-[ |

Title: Re: Has anyone gone to the wrong Doctor? Post by nani on Jul 22nd, 2005, 11:04pm Hi karenannie, welcome and sorry you're here. Many of us spent years being mis-diagnosed and mis-treated. Have you been diagnosed with cluster headaches? If you have (or haven't for that matter) a neurologist that specializes in Headaches is a better bet than a Pain specialist. CH is treatable. Have you tried oxygen? Look over on the left and click the oxygen info link. Print it and take it to your dr. Also look here for meds that have been effective for some: http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf Read everything you can here, before you see the dr. The more you know, the more you can help yourself. If you have CH, you've found the best place to be. :) Good luck and pain free wishes, nani |

Title: Re: Has anyone gone to the wrong Doctor? Post by karenannie on Jul 22nd, 2005, 11:37pm Thanks for the quick response. I have not been officially diagnosed with cluster headaches. It was suggested by my OBGYN that I have them and I decided to surf the net to see what I could find out. I think I am at the right place. I wake up at 2:00 a.m. with headaches and they last for days at a time. Some days I realize that I don't have one and it is a blessing. I have attributed it to my age and gender. I just know that I have to get the right kind of help. July 2nd. I decided it would be easier to die. Obviously that wasn't the case. I think I am on the right track. I will read and read everything here and hopefully find the right doctor, treatment or whatever. I love life, and have not been able to cope with the pain. :'( |

Title: Re: Has anyone gone to the wrong Doctor? Post by nani on Jul 22nd, 2005, 11:44pm Cluster headaches come more than once a day, not usually days at a time. On the left is the Cluster quiz, you should take it. While waiting for your neuro appointment, keep a headache diary. Record time of day, duration, intensity...anything you see as important for the dr to know. Narcotic pain meds don't usually help CHs at all and often make things worse. You need treatment that's specifically for the type of HAs that you suffer from, whether CH or not. pain free wishes, nani |

Title: Re: Has anyone gone to the wrong Doctor? Post by burnt-toast on Jul 23rd, 2005, 12:41am I spent two years trying to get doctors to listen to me an not just prescribe meds. to treat pain. During that time I had numerous tests run to rule out any physical causes - Have you gone through this process? Fortunately I kept reasonable information regarding my H/As and narrowed them down to CH - which my primary and neuro Docs. at the time refused to listen to. They felt I shouldn't rely on information that I obtained from Internet research. I knew it was time to seek better help. Have you gone through this process? I did some research of local H/A Clinics and found neurologists familiar with CH. After discussing symptoms and reviewing test results one neurologist took me off all pain meds. and started me on Lithium which gave me my first remission in two years. You need to obtain a proper diagnosis for your condition. You may have to work through some bad Docs. and do a lot of you own research to get it but in the long run it's the most important thing in starting to deal with the real problem. Best wishes, I know it isn't easy at times. Tom |
