Title: Comic relief..or..I tried to break my thumb today Post by ..Danielle.. on Jan 18th, 2006, 1:40am So the day got off to a wonderful start...slept through my alarm, got up at 11:30. The sleep was great, since it's been in short supply lately, but then I had to get presentable. Ran through the morning ritual in the biffy, only to discover - after I was soaking wet and less than dressed - that what I wanted to wear, was 2 floors down in the basement laundry. Damn. Scared the cats as I trooped down two flights in my housecoat..dripping water. Dressed, hair and make-up, found my shoes, coat and went outside to warm the car. (-10 last night) Looked at the clock and had ten minutes to make it to my bowling league. It's 12 minutes just to get to town. Drove fast, parked in the first available spot and sprinted into the bowling alley. Hung my coat, kicked off my shoes, found my lane, put on my bowling shoes......just as my turn came up ! Made it (big breath) Lined up my shot, took the steps, about to throw.....when my left foot stops DEAD ! (Moisture on shoe ? Water on lane ?) Now you can't ask this many pounds of momentum to just adapt quickly. In the next few seconds, my entire being finds itself ungraciously introduced to the nice wooden lane. To avoid the further humiliation of actually face planting on the lane, my left hand comes forward in a heroic attempt to break my fall. (stupid hand) Apparently the way it bent so funny actually made a few of the other women turn away and hold their hands over their mouths. I gracefully rolled my fat a$$ into the sitting position and did the once over check to make sure I hadn't fallen out of my bra, or split the butt out of my jeans. Since all was relatively well, I attempted to get up...after having my hands on the nice, oiled lanes. After wiping said hands on my jeans, I tried again with success. Walked back to my team with a round of applause and a blue/green/red thumb. Went to the first aid kit, wrapped it tight to the rest of my left hand, got a drink, and started over. Bowled 3 games, made my average, and left to the Dr's. It's not broken, but it's one of the most impressive near breaks she has ever seen, lots of stuff is pulled and strained. And it's colour is very cool. I have drugs if I need them, and she asked if I had ice..........oh yeah........I have ice. Not looking for vibes or hugs. I just found it stupidly funny and felt like sharing. With all the crap we go through here, I find a nearly broken thumb kinda comical. I guess it's all in the perspective. Danielle |

Be careful! Carol |

Title: Re: Comic relief..or..I tried to break my thumb to Post by ..Danielle.. on Jan 18th, 2006, 1:39pm The colours fading and the Dr. gave me some good stuff, so i'm doing well. The only major glitch is that my husband has left for two weeks...........ever tried to put on or take off a bra with only one hand ? ::) Now some men may be very adept at this, but I think I actually heard my cat laughing as I attempted to dress myself this morning.
