Title: Do you think Lily will like it?
Post by Melissa on Dec 6th, 2007, 11:08am
I wanted to get something for Lily for Ava to give her after she's born at the hospital.  I just bought this off eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350003067315

I know nothing about having a sister so would appreciate any opinion on if you'll think she'll like it or not?

It is very pretty.  I think she will love it.  My daughter still holds on and loves the pillow that she got that matched one of Camerons baby blankets.  It is their little special bond.

I think she'll love it, Mel.

Just be careful - The first four ultrasounds told us that Roy was an Ellen. Then I got the call from Pat while I was at the office: "Are you sitting down? Your daughter has testicles."

Brew, that was 16 yrs ago.  There have been advancements in ultrasound reading and the technicians are better educated.  Let me explain...

This is what they call the "gender shot"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/mfiltz/dsc053532.jpg

See those 3 lines?  Those define the labia.  That u/s pic was done at 19 weeks.  There is no evidence of a scrotum or penis so not only the tech, but also a nurse AND my OB could confidently tell me that I was having a girl.  Trust me, I asked many times!  Besides, the same tech predicted Lily and Eli also, so I trust her readings. ;)

Thanks guys!!! ;;D  I wanted it to be something special, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case something unmentionable happens.  As they get older I plan on getting them more sister stuff as I think it is the coolest thing in the world to have a sister!!!  I so wish I would have had siblings growing up, so I definately encourage their bonds (Brother Eli too!) as much as I can.

:-*

I don't know, Mel. That great big thing to the NNW of the three lines looks like a huge pecker to me!

I'm just messin' around. I know the technology is better now. And so we don't get off track (my fault - sorry), I'll say again that Lily will love it!

Hey, if it was there, I'd be perfectly fine with it!  Although Jesse would think it's the mailmans kid again. :-/

Thank you!  This being a parent of kids who have siblings is new to me...well, at least having more than 1 of each is, so the input is great. :)  I just get on the defensive sometimes because I've had to explain myself repeatedly about why we know for sure she's a girl.  Some people never let it rest!  I'm sorry I got a little huffy with you, if that's how I came off.

*hugs*

yeah but between Lily and Ava how many years had passed? I bet all the pinkies are too old and Eli's clothes are maybe too blue for Ava  ;)

LOL!  That's true!  There will be a 13 yr difference between Lily and Ava.  I did buy a bunch of pink onesies and sleepers, but only have 2 girl outfits for her.  I also got a pink Bundle Me for her car seat because it was Eli's and therefore blue, lol.  I'm not a huge pink, frilly girly fan anyway tho, wasn't with Lily either.  I leaned more toward yellow, white & purple with bits of pink mixed in.  I've bought about 95% of everything off eBay for her and have everything I need so far.  I'll get more clothes after she's here as I don't know how big she'll be. :)

Thats so pretty Mel, I am sure Lily will love it.

Its wonderful to have a sister. Although me and my older sister fought like dog and cat when we were little, now that we have grown up, we are very very close and yes we continue to give each other little mementoes all the time.

You are a great mum Mel to help them start building that special bond so early and to encourage them to continue on with the tradition.  :)

Mellie,
On the subject of showers.........
When I throw a shower, it is for the wee one who is about to arrive....it's not about the Mom(although I think you're special and deserve special treatment....this baby is NEW to this world, unique and deserving of a warm and wonderful welcome into this world...complete with un-ralphed-upon new baby items!!!
But, that's my 2 centavos of value..........

Happy Labor Day, Mellie!
*and, the bracelet is a great gift..wish my sis and I got along better........

Cathi :-*

Carol, it's for the baby to give to Lily. ;;D

Cathi- I understand about the shower thing, but no one is throwing one for the baby since it's considered against proper etiquette(sp?) to have a shower here if it's not your 1st child. :-/

Thank you for everyone's imput!  I think I made a good decision and that Lily will be touched when Ava gives it to her. :)

Me thinks Clusterheadache etiquette is completely different...and me thinks Ava needs a VIRTUAL shower!!And me thinks Melly should register somewhere :)

The bracelet is sweet :)

My sister and I fought like cats and dogs, but we were 2 years apart...we still can only deal with each other for a short period of time now.  But Lily and Ava will get along great with that age difference.  My little brother and I are 10 years apart and get along famously.  I used to take him with me when I was 16 and was babysitting so he could entertain the children.

Actually Mast, I do have one at BabiesRUs.com because I needed a checklist and have been removing stuff as I've gotten them.  Of course, I did put some stuff on that I'll probably never get because I just can't see spending the money, but ya gotta wish sometimes, right? ;;D
