Title: Thanks to everybody, Indocid works too
Post by LauraLo on Oct 10th, 2002, 1:13am
Firtstly thank you to everybody who assisted me during this period.  I am new to the site, gee this is a long story, I worked off site for a while and used the "pfp1@sourcecode.co.za" email and LauraL name.  I am now back at my office, and forgot the password for the LauraL login, so registered again. Anyway, the reason I wasn't on the site the last couple of weeks is because I was on leave & don't have internet at home yet.

Anyway, I used medicines I got from people here - normal stuff, triptans, oxygen, prednisone (sorry if spelling wrong).    HOWEVER, I found other meds that help, but there is something wrong with my set up & I can't research on the rx site (ww.rx.com), so I only know the brand names used here in South Africa, sorry, but here it is: ativan, 1 mg under the tongue at the start of the attack, it simply calms you  so the attack is not so traumatic.  This does nothing for the pain, but I found that it did wonders for tension and (bad) anticipation.   I also used Indocid, which is an anti inflamatory of sorts, but this actually makes the shadows dissappear too.  These are secondary medications and I don't think would be effective at all without coxygen and/or triptans.   I did take only Indocid & oxygen which also helped but not as quickly as with triptans.   I took the Indocid when I felt a shadow and specially at end of cycle, ch aborted.   Glad to say that my cycle is over, so for now I am pain free!

Oh - and I stopped smoking, which no doubt also helped!

Here's a couple of links to meds.
Be careful with the ativan. It can be habit forming.

Indocid? I can't find anything about it. Did you mean indocin, aka indomethacin?

Congrats on the smoking.

BobG, my Google is better than your Google  ;D

Indocid is the same as Indocin, generic Indomethacine, see http://www.rxmed.com/rxmed/b.main/b2.pharmaceutical/b2.1.monographs/cps-%20monographs/cps-%20(general%20monographs-%20i)/indocid.html

Laura, the site with the drug information is http://www.rxlist.com/.
It is good in almost every respect to stop smoking, congrats! Although I doubt it has an influence on CH, but it certainly makes Charlie happy, he can carve another notch.   ;D
