Title: Imitrex injection Post by Kenzie60 on Apr 8th, 2003, 5:51pm >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( I just returned from the drugstore and they will not give me my imitrex injections. I have to wait for authorization from the insurance company. Probably about a week they said. They have to verify that I need the meds. We just switched insurance companies in Jan and this is the first time that I have needed to refill my meds. I only have 4 injections left. |

Title: Re: Imitrex injection Post by Frank on Apr 8th, 2003, 8:40pm Oh boy! A subject very near to my heart since I just went through this. What It would be a good idea to follow up to make sure all of that really happens... starting with a call to your doctor. Edit: (I mentioned the above because my doctor decided to dump my ass. He refused to request authorization from the insurance company and instead referred me to another doctor). In the mean time while you're waiting... see the "Imitrex Tip" button over on the left side. It tells you how to split your 4 doses into 8 (quite effective for many CH'ers). If you can't decipher the instructions found there, ask us. |

Title: Re: Imitrex injection Post by Debby on Apr 9th, 2003, 3:41am I had the same problem years ago. I sent a letter to my medical aid (South Africa) telling them the pain I go through and referred them to the site. I also told them I felt clustere headaches should fall under chronic as depression does here (don't know if it does there) and cluster headaches cause depression. I sent many letters and made many phone calls. I think they were so sick of my they eventually recocnised it as chronic. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Imitrex injection Post by Kenzie60 on Apr 9th, 2003, 6:47am >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( To top it all off, my auto injector broke and when I retrieve the vials out of the case, they release the imitrex, it seems that the plunger is broken. I only have one plunger and that was it. I am calling the doctor as soon as he comes in this morning. I had 4 attacks during the night and I am exhausted tday, I have to take the day off from work. I intend to get this straighted out today. I really need this med. I am in Philadelphia and if anyone knows of a neuro in the city I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me their name. I saw a neuro at the University of Penn and they made me feel like I was crazy. Thanks Roseanne |

Title: Re: Imitrex injection Post by cluster0557 on Apr 15th, 2003, 12:10am The advice you got is good. I had my Neuro write a letter which I have a certified copy on file because my damn company is self insured and changes carrriers like some people change shorts. I have had to forward it to them 4 times now and have had to deal with 6 shot limit twice. It came down to letter from Doc and me asking if they wanted to pay for nightly trips to ER and Ambulance rides there or pay for quanity of Imitrex needed to get thru 22 days a month. I now have insurance coverage with a $35.00 deductible for 6 imitrex shots. |
