So, who knows about the strengths that Actiq comes in ? I had a 200mg lollipop & I have a prescription for 600mg lollipops. Is 600mg the strongest ones ??

Why? If this is what is helping his pain. Most of us have been through every med in the CH book. I'm sure a Narcotic would not be anyone's first choice to deal with this misery...but if someone has found something that makes it tolerable...why question it.

Unsolved-if you haven't found the answer yet...the strongest actiq is 1600 mcg.

From my previous comments it should be pretty clear why I would encourage other methods.
It should also be pretty clear that I would never criticize anyone for any approach they try. Nuff said!

Thanks for your replies everyone.
To be honest with you, I have little confidence that the lollipops will help, but i'm willing to try them. I ate a 200mg lollipop and it did not touch the pain. I was in agony for an hour. Now they've upped it to a 600mg lollipop which I haven't tried yet. (They have to mail the prescription. The 1st one they mailed, the doc forgot to sign) I should get the prescription (again) on Monday.
My first choice for pain relief is an Imitrex injection. But they don't want me using IMitrex everyday, multiple times. They are trying to limit me to 8mg pre week.
They are trying to find a drug to replace the Imitrex. So far, no drug compares to the relief I get from Imitrex.

Self administered DHE? Can't remember where I read about it....and not sure if I've read if you've used it or tried it other than in the hospital.....

can be either SQ or IM or IV just different dosages for each from what I recall...but I don't remember much more than that...

Have you been allowed to go this self treatment route?

Thanks for the thoughts ... but i've done DHE many times. (@ home and in the hospital). I still have about 5 vials of DHE here at the house. I do like it but I can't do it everyday.
BTW...DHE has a max dose of 2mg per day & 6mg per week (IM & IV). There is no SQ , just IM, IV, and NS(Migranol). It should be taken with Phenegran... And not used within 24 hrs of any Triptans.

Type into google...thats what I did - yes there is SQ DHE.

And they say no more that 12 mg if trex a day either..but we all know how idiotic that is in reality.

Sometimes just for a second I'd like to shove a huge knitting needle up a doctors nose and straight thew the eyeball, wedge the point into the back of the skull, and slowly lift up on it for an hour...all the while setting a tazer on the temple.

Ok I'm done ranting...I feel bettter now.... :-/

Although I can (and do) break the limits on Imitrex, DHE is different and I cannot. I start having leg, knee, and ankle pain (poor circulation) and I get whitening of the fingers and toes (also poor circulation). DHE is a powerful drug. If I could take 2 - 3 mg a day, everyday ... I'd have myself a cure (for me anyways)

PS. I was told that DHE too close to the skin, or infiltrated (IV) could 'damage' your skin [ie. scar] ... [smiley=huh.gif]

I have DHE for sq at home. The doc told me to do the following for this week only to try and break my cycle:

1 vial 3x day spaced at least 6 hours apart for 3 days then
1 vial 2x day at least 6 hours apart for 2 days
then
1 vial 1xday for 1 day

I took the first shot just as the storms finally went away after almost a week of rain and storms and I never needed the second shot.

sq for DHE requires a 5/8" #24 needle, not exactly sq. in comparison to other sq injections I've taken.
