Title: Another newbie
Post by trout on Aug 9th, 2002, 8:14am
Hi,

I have not been diagnosed with CH, but I believe that is what is happening to me.  I am 39, and have been waking up for the last 10 days with severe pain in my right side, into my eye, which is watering.  It happens almost at the same time every night.  About two years ago I was woken up with the same kind of pain, went to ER and had all the tests done, with everything showing "normal".   No headaches recurred until this past couple of weeks.  I was looking around for information on what might be going on and found your website.  Thank God, at least I feel like I have a possible answer to what the hell has been happening to me!!!  I guess I should get my GP to send me to a neuro for a correct diagnosis????

Well, as one newbie to another .... that's how it started with me.  Never a headache to complain about and then bam .... every night for 27 days, always within 1 - 1 1/2 hours after going to sleep.  My GP actually thought it was clusters before she sent me off to the neuro.  She also had a CAT SCAN done to make sure it wasn't sinus, then the neuro followed up with the MRI & MRA.  Good luck to you and hopefully you will find out what is wrong.  Go back to your GP and ask them to look in to this.  For your sake I hope this ain't what it is.

You absolutely should go see a neuro. Shop around for one who is familiar with CH.

Welcome to the board!  Sorry the beast has hung you by your cranium on a meat hook in his meat market.  Definately see a good doc about your HAs.  Get a diagnosis, and then get on a treatment program.  Welcome to the family!

Welcome to the family.  I'll chime in with the others, find a CH informed neuro and get checked out.  Lots of infomation available on this site to prepare you with the knowledge you will need to help the neuro start you on a treatment that will help you.

trout,

sure sounds like a CH: one sided, eye watering, same time each night/morning...I'd educate myself about this affliction as much as possible, then start looking for a neuro familiar enough with them.  Appropriate answers to a few good, well-posed questions should let you know whether the neuro knows anything about CH's or not - many don't becasue it is not a common malady.  And non-neuros often think migraine, which they definitely are NOT.  My family practitioner said, " the standard drug to treat cluster headaches is indomethicin..."  WRONG - that's to treat cranial paroxysmal hemicrania, a similar yet distinctly different disease...see what I mean?  Gotta be careful out there...  Anyway, welcome to the board and wishing you all the best as you explore the strange and painfult world of CH. - Jim R
