Title: Is it my PC or CH.com?
Post by suzy617 on Dec 31st, 2002, 7:11am
7:30am and only pimmony and myself here.  I know I had a helluva time trying to get on before, the site kept timing out. I was assuming it was this sucky computer of mine but now I'm wondering.  Well, off to work, have a great day all!

Ahhh....connectivity. The  _Other_  white meat.  Sometimes the site itself (clusterheadaches.com) is up and running just fine; it's the MB that's hanging up. You can try coming in thru the "front door" - www.clusterheadaches.com - instead of thru your bookmark, which is probably directing you to clusterheadaches.com/wwwboard/index.html   That's the easiest way to see if the site's up, but it's not much fun and even less of a challenge.
If you'e not sure whether it's you or it's Memorex causing the problem, try some of the cool utilities in Windoze.  Drop to a DOS prompt - (START\RUN) type "command" in the RUN box. Once you're at the C:\> on the black screen, type in:
Ping www.clusterheadaches.com

If the site's OK, you'll see something like this on your screen:

Pinging clusterheadaches.com [66.154.42.184] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 66.154.42.184: bytes=32 time=133ms TTL=238
Reply from 66.154.42.184: bytes=32 time=132ms TTL=238
Reply from 66.154.42.184: bytes=32 time=131ms TTL=238
Reply from 66.154.42.184: bytes=32 time=142ms TTL=238
Ping statistics for 66.154.42.184:
   Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
   Minimum = 131ms, Maximum =  142ms, Average =  134ms

That'll let you know the site "Proper" is alive, and it's the MB that is acting up.
For even more fun, go to the command prompt and type in
Tracert www.clusterheadaches.com
This'll let you know if there's a bottleneck between you and the site. The good times never stop!!! :)

When tired of exercising your Typing finger, do what I do: Slam down a glass of Scotch, just to keep your "Trigger Finger" in shape.

Promptly yours,
RJ
