Title: Liter Flow-IMP
Post by Brian_Y on Jan 7th, 2003, 12:00pm
What liter flow do you normally use for your O2?  I think someone set the gauge wrong on what they brought to me and I am, of course, having trouble getting the doc to call back.  Any info would be MOST helpful!!!!

The medical supply company I dealt with provided a tank with a regulator that only went up to 8 liters/min. Luckily, it was enough to work for me. Don't know what kind of "fixins" you're using, but you should be able to adjust your regulator flow rate upwards quite simply. If you need to buy a regulator, here's some you can order on-line, under $100:

Ask Jonny what to do if you want a real Industrial Strength O2 setup.

Brian,

I, too, have a wimpy reg that max's out at 8l/min.   The script I got from Dr. Kudrow stated 02 at 7l/min.  However, if you talk to the oxygen vets on here, they have found flows from 10 to 12l/min to be the most effective.  The 8l/min flow seems to work for me in anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes upon onset of the CH.

I'm with Slammy.  The reg I had only went to 8 lpm.  I ran anywhere between 7-8 lpm.  Worked in 10-15 minutes with the attack never getting above a 3 or 4.  Combine this with taking a tab of cafergot before you put the mask on and you're good to go.

My regulator goes to 15 LPM which I think is normal.
an 8 doesn't even touch my headache.

It takes a REAL man size set of lungs to keep up with the bag at 15, Pimplestilskin.

Take the troll lungs to the back of the class ;D

Jonny

If it takes a real man size set of lungs then I guess that's what I got :P

When I got hit outta nowhere straight to a kip 10, I cranked my O2 to 15lpms and was emptying the bag before it could refill.

Course, a kip 10 makes one do ANYTHING to get rid of it.

Ueli told me once (I think) that you want to get as much O2 into your system as fast as possible, and I did, and it worked miracles :)

Course with the bubbler on, it seems that the bag fills slower, maybe it's just me, but when you're hurtin that bad, it's not hard to suck up 15lpms and wait impatiently for the damn thing to fill up again! LOL

Perhaps I was hyperventilating, who knows.  It worked, and that's all I care about :)

Well Slammy I'd be happy to, unfortunately there's these great big things attached to the front of them that make it hard to see the lung section ;)

Also makes it hard to swing a golf club LOL
