Title: More on potential media coverage
Post by athos12 on Dec 9th, 2003, 10:42pm
There is another option that I jus thought of....  buy ad space in tageted periodicals or even TV ads....

Since O.U.C.H is a nonprofit org, we could put together a public service announcement  that was targeted in increasing awareness....  TV and radio stations have to play PSA's sometime during the day.  You don't have to pay for the ad time, they will just play it.... granted they usually play them late at night, but if they are creative/indightful or humorus, then they get more air time...  I used to be DJ and I would only play the PSA's that I liked....

If you get a PSA played during medical programs, Talkshows, etc... on the radio or tv....

Create 30 sec and 60 sec spots so they can fill the time appropriately...

I would how much $$$ we could raise to create ads, or spots within our group?

Many many groups, The United Way, several churches, etc create massive media campaigns...  their budgets are large.. I have created a few video spots for the UnitedWay...  but they are cheap when it comes to paying the hired help....

With the harware and software that is out now it is relatively in expensive to create quality work.

Just an idea.

Athos, you should post this on the OUCH business board, it is a very good idea.  I have wanted to do some sort of TV ad, but the costs are so astronomical, even for a national PBS spot.  One thing I haven't checked into yet, is our local PBS station.  I will have to see what it'd be just for our state.

That is a great idea!  I have connections in the local radio market out here in OK, I will see what it would cost to do a local and national spot, I'll talk to him this weekend and let you know!

PSA's are generally free for a non-specific time slot, that is, that they play it when ever they need filler time or before 12 midnight..  Every public radion/TV station is required to air so many PSA's per day.

I graduated with a girl that is a DJ at a very popular radio station in Columbus, OH.  If we get some sort of tape i could see if she could play it.

I have done voice overs for years and been a DJ etc....  If you want to use my voice.... I can get time in a studio easy... and then either I can edit it or, or can burn a CD with it...

Night time is Prime Time to reach clusterheads.

Great ideas you guys. I'm sure this has been discussed at some point but nothing says "look at me" better than celebrity support.
Has anybody ever tried to get Lisa Kudrow to do any service spots? She is known everywhere in the English speaking world and of course her father being a Doctor and sufferer(I believe) would make it a natural fit. "Friends" is winding down so maybe she would have some time, not to mention media connections, to put a spotlight on the Beast. Go Hollywood with it. I can't believe she wouldn't do it seeing that her father is involved. my [smiley=twocents.gif]cdn. :)

It is worth checking into....  also finding a noteable celeb with CH I am sure would do it...  Question is, finding them...

I read on the OuchUK site that it's rumored Sandra Bullock may suffer from them. Shesupposedly has to leave the movie set occasionally to deal with  "bad" headaches and comes back an hour or so later ready to go again. Just a rumor though. Maybe Halley(sp?) Barrie has them.Yum! ;;D

Just found this..

http://headaches.about.com/cs/advocacy/a/montel_wish.htm

Let's Get Montel's Attention!

The "Montel's Wish" Project
Dec 11 2003

How many timeshave we wished "someone famous" would take up the cause of chronic pain issues including headaches and Migraine disease? Countless times? Countless times! I know some of us have written popular talk show hosts many times, asking them to do a show on our issues, but have had no response.

Today, I'm asking every person who reads this to send one email and send me a copy of it.

May be worth pursuing

Do we want to organize what we want to accomplish in a media campaign?

Set up someone to filter and organzie ideas and keep track of who and what has been contacted and with what information?

How about making sure that approach that we are using is consistant, accurate and up-to-date?

Who are the ones here that have the time and want to be involved, and at what capacity?

I am happy to help in any capacity...  Design (audio/graphic/video), marketing, PR...  Grunt..  what ever...  I think that this is a great idea and I don't want it to die...

This is Lisa Kudrows address according to a "Friends" fan site. The site says to handwrite the letter because Stars tend to ignore typed letters.

Lisa Kudrow
10850 Wilshire Blvd #400
Los Angeles, CA 90024

Anyone want to take lead on this?  We should draft a letter and then let those here interested take a gander, and then send it off...  Someone other than myself needs to write it...  I have horrible penmanship.

This is such a great idea!  We have to get the word out there somewhere and surely someone is willing to help us.  There has to be some celebrity that actually deals with the beast.

If they can have PSA on irritable bowel syndrome, then why not CH.

We need to put a script together, or at least an outline so that we can pitch it to a Celeb, and to stations.

Again..  anyone want to take lead on this?  Anyone want to nominate someone to take lead on this?

I am nominating you to do an outline!  You know you can do it!

I will volunteer my self to do any of the handwritten letters. I will need copies of the letters as you can all tell by now my spelling sucks! I do caligraphy, so I think that would be nice for any one to receive. I would also need names and addresses of where to address the hand written letters....
I am not volunteering my self to draft any of these...I wwouldn't know what to say.
I will just make the letters look pretty

I will post an outline by Monday if not sooner....

There are other groups out there that have already done PSA's dealing with chronic pain...  We should look at those and get a feel for what works...

You've got a 1/1700 chance of finding one.

If you send a letter to Dr. Kudrow, he could ask a celeb that may be one of his patients. He can't give out a name, but maybe someone would volunteer if he did have a celeb with CH.
