Cost of living is much lower. More Humidity. Some pretty strange drivers, but they don't shoot at you. Tax burden is lower, so more beer money. Beer is pretty marginal, plentiful though. The people are really from this planet. Wonderful place for boating. Surfing is so-so but uncrowded. Its over 2000 miles from Oregon. Thats fairly unbiased. Ofcourse YMMV TTFN 8) |

Still not sure what I think about it, moving here from California, too. Been here 2 1/2 years now. It's ok. The best thing I can tell you about the Raleigh area...I'm here!! ;;D ;;D ;;D Lots of unusual, huge, bugs. Lots of snakes. Lots of beautiful golf courses. 3 hours from the beach, or 3 hours from the mountains. 3 hours to Norfolk. 8-10 hrs to Orlando. 8 1/2 hours from Nashville for the convention in July. My husband works in Cary. He drives about 35 min. We live a little north of Raleigh, in Frankilin County. Taxes are lower, houses cheaper, less crowded. Now coming from California, Cary won't seem very crowded to you either. But we wanted to have property. Cary is overgrown, and expensive in comparison. Anyway, we are having a get together at my house Jan. 31st weekend of clusterheads. You and the family are welcome. We have lots of floor space,and hotels nearby. Kids are welcome. You can stay here anytime on your travels, and I would love to drive you around the area, and show you the hot spots! What do you do, and who are you trasferring with?? We reloc'd with Wachovia. I am excited that you are coming here!! Can't wait to meet you! Hope you can make the Jan. get together. IM me anytime, or email. I can send you pics, maps, newspapers. Yes, it is true, the people here are slow as hell, drive like crap, and pick their noses at red lights. The food sucks in my book. Don't care for collard greens or grits. It's hard to find a Starbucks. Cigarettes are way cheaper. There are actually alot of people here from California, New York, and Pennsyvania. It is very pretty, and people are very nice. The people at McDonald's still screw up your order, that's not just in California. Krispy Kreme originated here!! But there is only one damn store. You have to buy the cold ones at the gas stations. The rain storms are great. The humidity sucks. No earthquakes. But they close EVERYTHING in case of snow, ice, hurricanes, or a bad wind storm. Electircity goes out alot, but not because the state didn't pay the bill!! LOL OK, shutting up.....little deb |
