Title: Losing my Job........
Post by Cerberus on Dec 19th, 2003, 11:12pm
Well, I spent the last ten years learning all the proceedures, specs, etc. Only to be told last Wednesday that our store is closing because it is not finacially viable to keep open anymore. >:(
Basically, I now have to start all over again from ground zero. This really sucks big time. I Don't know what else to say.  :(

Sorry to hear that Ramon. I've changed jobs a few times over the last five years. It really SUCKS. Don't look at it as starting all over. Use what you've learned and build on it. I know things will work out in time for you. Chicago area is a pretty good job market. Sending you an I.M.

I recently joined the ranks of the unemployed.  Myself, I am taking some time to re-assess what the meaning of life is.   In other words, my plate is too full to re-train at this point.  I need some time to take care of my family who needs me, and thank God I have the ability to do that financially.

I've only ever had two real jobs in my lifetime.  One working for the church for 16 years and one in banking for 15 years.  It's tough when you work so hard to realize a dream, and then the rug gets pulled out from under you.  What you need to remember is that you started once ..or twice .... you can do it again.

I'm thinking that the nursing field is looking pretty good.  With the standard classes already under my belt, it should only take me the rest of my lifetime to accomplish that.  But what the heck, starting over is better than quitting.

Good luck !!!!!!!!  I know the initial brutal hurt is tough, but hey, we are a tough group us clusterheads !!!!!!

Cerebus,
Know how ya feel.  I worked for a clinic for 8 years when all of a sudden they shut down, no warning.  I worked there twice as long as anyone else ever had.  Huge turnover.
Anyways...I'm working for a GREAT clinic now, way better then the first.
One door closes, another one opens.  Look forward to finding maybe a BETTER job!!
Take care, vibes going up, of course,
Mast

Ramon,

From what I've heard about you.   You have the MOXY to pick yourself up.  Dust yourself off.  and go where you're appreciated and needed.   You're a clusterhead and if you can survive that...you can survive this minor set-back.   Kick butt. !!!!!!

*BIG HUGS* for you Ramon!  I'm sorry to hear about losing your job, but everyone is right...take some time to think about how you want to handle it, and you can do it!

Oneeyeblind...i'm going for my 2nd degree starting this May in nursing.  I will have just finished the basic prerequisites after this year.  If you go for nursing as a 2nd degree, you can enter into an accelerated program for BSN or BSN/MSN somewhere so that it only takes a year to get the BSN if you want.  I didn't want to start all over as it's taken me a long time to get this first degree finished with all the setbacks.  Send me a PM if you want more info.

It's happening all over.

One of my best friends was layed off from a tool company. He's in nurses training now. Here, he'll always have a job. New York is a great place to be a nurse.

Good luck kids.

You never know.  Things change.

Instablity sucks.  In my profession (architecture) we are nothing but gypsy sleepers moving from one office to another.

If it happens again, I'm going simple.  Blowing leaves off of the parking lot..I don't care.

Simple is good.  86 all else.

You never know Ramon.  Good luck my friend.

Damn, Bus....
Sorry to hear this. :(
Ya know what though?  You are a clusterhead and you're gonna be fine...just fine :)

They say we can't control what happens to us in our lives but we sure as hell can control what we do about it and how we handle it.....You, Sir, are gonna "handle it" and "do about it" just fine.  I have no doubt. You have a "Woobie" there to help you too... :)

Love to you and yours....

Ramon, I don't know what to say except I'm sorry and to try and keep a positive attitude.  We too, are waiting to see if hubby will have a job or not come Dec. 31st.  Because of all the wonderful support from everyone here, I am learning to just take it as it comes, and if he does lose it, something better WILL come along!!  I am sure of that, for us and for every CH'er in the same situation.  I'll am praying for everyone at this trying time.  Don't worry, I got yer back!

love,
:)mel

Actually I am attempting to enjoy the time off with my 3 year old and considering finishing my degree.

Good luck!

Ramon,

I am so, sorry to hear about your job. I have been in that position a few times already. The last one in June. But every time I think the new job was something I was settling for, it turned out to be great. The way I see it, it is just more diverse experience. Good luck, and vibes to you. For now enjoy the holidays and don't let the worries spoil them for you and your family.

Write down everything you like and love.

Let some area of interest naturally come out of that.

Let a "job" or "activity" come out of that.

Rewrite what part of that "job" that you love and what part you want no part of. Concentrate on the part you love.

Brainstorm with anyone and everyone about it. Keep an eye open for any door that opens.

or....just be frustrated by the classified ads.

Clusters just ended my job of 13 years. I took care of all the buildings for a gigantic church/school.

Yada...yada...yada...3 months later....I am waiting on my first check for teaching inner city kids "acting"..."theater arts". Something I love to do.

Georgia and I are starting a non profit corp to bring the Arts to disadvantaged, disabled kids. My boss will understand clusters.

Do what you love.

'Bus....somehow, I know that you are going to come out on the better end of this deal.  That's just how you are.  I'm sorry it is happening to you, but you are the type that will always come out on top.

Cappy,

Work is definitely over rated. I haven't missed it one whit over the last decade.
Besides........Woobie is young, strong, and eager. Shouldn't be too hard for her to find another job or two, and support you in the life style to which you are accustomed to living.

Make sure she gets the remote for you before heading out the door.

This short MOVIE (http://www.drfeller.com/temp/homeimpr.mpg) should help.

Keep that sofa warm,
RJ

I have basically lost my current job due to severe   headaches. Of course, "I'm lying" and trying to get out of work, obviously, so I have been fired. I mean, who would want to go to work and pay rent when they could stay home and cry their heads hurt so much?

You've come to the right place for empathy, Ramon.

Cerberus-It truly does suck to "be downsized"....or to be a part of a biz that's "goin down"....That sucks, and I hate that you are facing such uncertainty.....BUT....
happened to my husband 2 yrs ago. He just finished his first year with the "replacement job"......in Gil's words...."the worst day at this job is far better than the best day at my old job"....
Den's got the right idea...find your niche, and fit your self into it. Meantime, you will survive! I know you will!

BTW- Mr Happy's ideas........WROONNNGG!

Woobie, LOSE  the remote....take it to work with ya or sumpin' ;) ;)

Drop in for some encouragement, anytime ya need it!

You guys are the greatest....

Here's the deal, The store closes Jan 4th. I will be getting whatever vacation time accrued and a "bonus" of two extra weeks pay (not holding my breath).
The next nearsest location is franchising and looking to possibly hire a cook...................PHOOEY! I didn't spend 10 yrs. to lose my perks even if the pay stays the same.  So...............Start over it is, now, its just a question of what, where, and when. The employment outlook in the area is mighty bleak, but after the holidays there will be new opportunities.
As to finding work................not a huge problem I am good at what I do and will find SOMETHING if the pinch gets too great I'll just get in where I fit in. But, I really don't want to be a cook anymore and If I can't get a salaried manager's position ( or at least a cooking job at pay close to what I WAS getting) then I'm gonna look outside of the resturant industry.

Thanks you guys, May your holidays be PF.
Ramon

I hate to sound cliche Ramond, but sometimes in my life when things took a turn, which I thought to be a crappy one, ended up being a better one, so you never know what is up the road waiting for you.
I will pray that is a blessing that is coming your way.
Jayne
