Title: Blood Work Results
Post by Sylvan on Nov 27th, 2004, 5:54pm
Well - the good news is that my bloodwork came back with just about everything well within normal ranges. The only things that were *slightly* off were WBC (white blood count) which was 0.4 above the normal range and MPV (mean platalet volume) which was 0.1 below the normal range.

Doctor says neither of those #'s is significantly out of range.

Bad news is the bananas seem not to be a cure-all. The tests were done before i started the banana regimen and my potassium was normal. Can also rule out CO2, sodium, and glucose, renal, liver, thyroid etc as problems.

EKG scheduled for monday. Hopefully my *wonderful* Dr will A. RX the verapamil and/or B. refer me to a decent neurologist.

Just for giggles last night - i rode one out without trying any of the OTC remedies or the midrin or tylenol/codine.
Not surprised - the HA lasted about the same amount of time as when i've swallowed my whole medicing cabinet. About 45 minutes rocking with an ice pack (and a very curious cat who kept trying to head-but me under the chin)

Sylvan

PS - in case i haven't mentioned it enough - thank you all for being here and being supportive - this is a very scary time and knowing that i'm not alone in this is very helpful.

So far ...so good(?) It's nice to rule out some things...I hope you get some real CH help soon. A good neurologist is a must. Hopefully your doc will get a clue and get on that referral...Hang in there... [smiley=hug.gif]

If he doesn't - i will be starting the agonizing process of changing PCP's through an HMO [smiley=ohjez.gif]

Anyone know a good neuro in northern NJ? There were none listed at OUCH and the only one i know doesn't take my insurance anymore  :'(

Thanks Billy J - unfortunately - no luck there either.

I've printed out a list of all of the neuro's in the area and i'm going to ask the opinion of the one Dr at my PCP's office who's opinion i value. Unfortunately - she's moving to Va next month - so i will be seeking a new PCP at that time as well.

There are a couple that were educated at Yeshiva which is supposed to be a very good medical school - i may choose one of them for starters.

The other option is to just go to the one my OB-Gyn recommended. She is one of the best - but will be costly.

Isn't it amazing that my PCP is dicking around and my OB-Gyn took one look at me - listened to my syptoms and said - you need a neurologist - go see this one - and gave me her #.

Hi Sylvan,
Don't know of any in northern NJ but we go to one in Bricktown, NJ.  At least he has a clue about CH's and getting the med's and O2 has never been a problem.
He even sent us to a specialist in NYC to get a second opinion.
If you want either one of their names and more details, email me and I will be glad to help.

Thanks Connie.

Bricktown is pretty far. I'm up by Vernon - near the upstate NY border.

My PCP did finally give me a referral to someone in Ridgewood. I'll be calling tomorrow to make the appt.

Thanks for the offer though.

Sylvan
