Hi all,  

Has anyone's doctor told them that the ch's will stop when you get into your 40's or 50's?  My brother's neurologist at the Mayo clinic told him that and it was true for him.  In another area of the board I posed the question when responding to somebody's post and nobody there had heard of that.

Sorry to say that thats not true. It may stop for some folks or go into a long long remission. But age has nothing to do with it although some people have reported longer remissions and shoreter cycles as they get older. Others have not been so lucky.

I wish someone would tell my Doc that so he could in turn instruct me to no longer have CH.

If that were only true, I would never have had CH's.  Mine started at the tender young age of 41!

From what I have read, I would say that some people get relief in their old age.  Only a lucky few have them go away completely.  I'm planning on being a lucky one!

I've been told that they just go away sometimes, but they haven't for me yet.

Mine didn't start til' I was 55 - - - must have gotten someone elses  - - - where do I go to complain?

My doctor has told me that it is rare for CH to continue into the 60's and that he has not had patients in that age range.  

I am counting down the years and holding out hope.
Please do not post any contrary statistics, knowledge, or anecdotal evidence to offset this one ray of hope I still hold near and dear to my heart.

Sadly this is total bollocks. The opposite is more likely to be true

  Written by Dr Manjit Matharu who used to be a research registrar to Prof. Goadsby.

God bless those that bring this aging boomer some hope. After 31 years of CH...maybe I only have another 10-15 to go... :-/

Don's absolutely right! Dr Matharu gives a presentation on CH at virtually every OUCHuk regional meeting. Not only will he not accept a fee but also refuses any payment for his travel or accomodation expenses! He certainly cares!

In my case I can honestly say the CHs condition has improved with age.  Cycles are getting further apart and a little less intense.  The decrease in intensity could very well be due to the meds.  I rarely let myself go past a K4 without blasting myself with trex.  The exception would be if I've already taken 3 shots within 24hrs.

I used to fight the beast without meds and to this day I don't know how I made it.

Hi,
Got em 8 years ago at 40. Gone chronic for the last 2 yrs. freq. and intensity up. 3 weeks ago I broke my own record of 8 Imitrex shots in 24 hrs.  I'm hoping this is their "life" peak and it's all downhill from here. Have to agree, hard to believe how I survived the early years.  Just goes to prove, things get better with time. PFD! Bobbio.
