Network Computer help

Anyone familiar with terminal services for windows 2000 server...
I have 3 98SE boxes on the network with a data server that is a P4 1.5...
The data transfer sucks for the 98 machines... So Instead of upgrading thos pathic AMD K6's I thought that terminal services would be ideal since there are no other apps that these machines run.
I have never setup terminal services and if anyone has any insight that would be great!

I don't understand how using the older computers as a terminal will help if you network transfer rates are slow. There are many ways to get win98 transer rates up. Check out tweaking win98 network on various search engines. I found some stuff but didn't save the links and havn't tried them becouse I have gone back to work. By the way there are also many ways to make win98 much faster and more stable. I am also planning on using an old laptop as a terminal for a larger computer. Grant should have the info you need.

Also works great for covering bullet holes in the car....just paint over with same color paint

Depending on what his application is doing, there could be a number of scenarios that Terminal Services would be a better solution.
1) & 2) deal with transfer rates being a bottleneck whereas 3) doesn't.
1) a large application that is being kept on the server resulting in a long wait to start the application (entire program has to be moved across the network before it can run)
2) an application that uses a lot of data residing on the server. Using Terminal Services only screen-refreshes, keystrokes, and mouse movements are transferred.
3) the application takes too long to run on an AMD K6. Terminal services would also help in a case like this.
It all depends on what his application is doing. At work, we run an accounting system from remote offices. The main reasons are a) licensing costs and b) centralization of data.

I now understand. Using a home network a family could share a fast PC used as a server or a true server, such as a Quad Zeon with SCSI HD's and use old or cheap pc's as terminals with most of the software running on the server. Would this even work with a slow Wifi network? I guess I have goto get into this more when I get the time.

I have asked Grant a question or too myself, so far I haven't recieved a bill LOL. I usually like to try to fix it myself as there is nothing better than an intresting computer problem.

I use my 200MHz computer in Texas, to term into the servers in Maine, because it ends up being easier....
Also, Windows Remote Desktop will work on other than XP. I know 98 and 2000 work....
We have doctors term into the Maine servers to do their work, rather than FTP 80MB files back and forth... I love Term Services!!!
