She was 10 also. We were in the same class in 4th Grade, and it was right after my 10th birthday.
At age 11, was busted with the girls down the block, and got the belt to the raw hide for that one. 
At age 12 my idol was Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads.
Need I say more?

Carl, age 10! That's something. I hardly know what to say, errr... I mean, type. I can safely say that at age 10 girls were the furtherst thing from ole marlin's still intact mind. I stumbled thru life all the way to the ripe age of 16 before I finally bestowed the pleasure of my affections on a very willing female subject.
I pulled out all the stops! The recipe: Added beer until my "associate" was good and ready (I knew she was ready when she began tugging at my fly). Then the 2 of us made a dash for my fine specimen of a vehicle - a Ford Pinto! Marlin isn't the tallest guy - 5ft11in but even that made bouncing around all but impossible. Did manage though! I don't give up easy. Either did she, although until this day I wonder what the hell made her go through with it. Somehow I don't imagine this little romp ranks up in her top 10 list.
Dropped her off at the end of her driveway and accelerated that Pinto till it didn't have anything left to give.
Don't remember her name. Romantic Love Story movie material, donchathink?

I don't think starting at 10 is that odd. We were curious kids, and by then I had seen enough movies that, I figured it out pretty quick.
Ever seen "The Tin Drum?" I did, that same year - quite a few times on cable.
