Title: Pet Peeve  (grrr)
Post by Lissa on Jan 7th, 2004, 4:33pm
I met my boyfriend's family for the first time over the holidays.  They were all very nice.  One thing that bugged the shit out of me was their constant complaints about migraine headaches.  My boyfriend, his sister and his brother all get migraines.  New to the "family", I thought I'd add to the conversation by saying that I get cluster headaches.  They both responded "Oh yeah, we have those too" (like it was no big deal).  I was like, yeah right!!!!  If they really had clusters, they wouldn't have just said "Oh yeah, I get them too!"  It made me mad.  Grrrrrrr.

I was told recently in Florida that this condition I had was more or less stress related and mentally conceived. I saw red.  Wish that individual could spend a few days in our shoes.

No, wait!  Invite them over for dinner, fill it full of a laxitive, and when they are in agony, say.."oh, I get an upset stomach sometimes too."  Then offer desert!

The only thing to do is let them see you with a CH, and when they offer you Tylenol tell then it won't help at all.  Also make sure they know it is impossible to sleep with a CH. That's all you want to do with a Migraine.

If I let them see me with a CH they'd think I was a fucking freak.  I don't even like my boyfriend to see me with one.   :-/

I know, bring them to this site and let them read the note that Lil Deb just received about the sufferer who committed suicide 2 years ago.  That has broken my heart today.

If you hire Jonny, will you please video-tape it for all of us so we can live vicariously?

Now, forget the family.....what does your boyfriend think about your "little HA's" ?   THAT'S what is important.

and then again I like lil Debs answer too.  Linda   [smiley=crackup.gif]

It's a self-involved response. They hate being upstaged and want you to get back to their problems.

Next time get Jonny to do some tattoo work on them with a welding torch and explain that clusters are worse pain.  >:(

I'm not a clusterhead and comments like that piss me off!!!! >:(

Example:  I had new carpet laid in my office.  The carpet man decided I should know all his wife's medical problems....including migraines.  I related that my husband suffered from chronic cluster headaches.  His response....."oh yeah,  she has those too".  My response (to myself... ;;D)  B*llshit she does.

Another one that gets to me is when friends and acquaintances say to me something like....."Jackie, you're an intelligent woman.  I can't believe you let this go on.  Why don't you get him to a good doctor".... >:(

If people only knew.... :(

The difference is, had you posted here that you suffered from clusters, there would have not been one response from the sufferers and supporters here like "Oh yeah, I get those too."
It reminds of talking to my talkative two and a half year old niece and asking here what day it was.  I laughed my ass of at the blank stymied expression she gave me, like I was an alien asking her what color a dog bark is.  The poor little thing had never thought of, or had any conception of what time was.
Don't take certain responses so hard, my niece's not responding was funnier and smarter than certain adults think they are.

That use to upset me to. Now I use that as my educating them on what a cluster is. I went to get my nails done the other day. I was wearing my O.U.C.H. T-Shirt and was asked about it. When I told him, thats what he said "his wife had them".  I started asking him if her eye watered, if her nose ran , if she had to move and on and on. If she hurt so bad that if she went to the ER with a cluster and her arm hanging off witch one would she want them to treat first? The cluster or the arm. Just about every cluster head would say the cluster.
By the time I got done he knew what his wife had was not a cluster. He didn't get it, but when ever he hears clsuters he will know the difference.
Don't get pissed! Just tell them the difference in a nice way.
I do understand and know how pissed you can get. God forbid anyone say that to me durning a attack. I might not be nice then !!!

My boyfriend knows the truth.  Thank God!  He could tell by the look on my face that I was getting pretty hot.  I didn't say anything though until we got in the car.  He then told me that no one in his family gets clusters.  Well, DUH!!

Hey don't knock the magnets.... Heck, I even tried that. Put them under a headband - the latest in fashion statements....

Actually they looked better than the banana peels...

And then there were the jalepenos....

The things we'll do......
