Title: Tear Jerker Song (not CH)
Post by ClusterChuck on Dec 21st, 2004, 12:48am
I just listened to (in my opinion) the biggest tear jerker song I know of, on Sirius classic country.  It is Red Sovine's Teddy Bear.  I cry like a baby whenever I hear that song.

What is your biggest tear jerker song?

Chuck

"Dear Mr. Jesus."  :'(

I don't know who sings it or who wrote it, but it's about an abused child who's praying. That song tears me up like nothing else...  :'(

I love this song as well... :'(

Mine is "If I Could", don't know who sings it.  I'm thinking Aretha Franklin, but not sure.  It's about a mother singing to her child, wishing she could protect her from all of life's hurts.  My favorite part of the song is when she says "If I could, I would shade your innocence from time, but I know the life I gave you isn't mine, but I would, If I could"...(it reminds me of the niece I'm raising as my own).

Whew! there I go again!  :'(

There's a song, and I don't know who sings it, but it's about a homeless kid who's talking to a department store Santa... That song came on the radio last year, when I was driving down the highway. I honestly had to pull over because I was sobbing my guts out. What the hell, man? Jeez...

Frank, Is it a country or rock/pop song?

Title: Re: Tear Jerker Song (not CH)
Post by Jeepgun on Dec 21st, 2004, 10:28am
Pop/Soul, I think...

The chorus is something like, "Jesus was a homeless boy..." That's all I can remember of it. And there was something about the boy saying that he and his family lived in a burned-out car...

The Christmas Shoes...I bawl and sob everytime I hear it... My girlfriend died Dec. 26th after a long battle with cancer, and this song always makes me think of her.

It was almost Christmas time,
There I stood in another line,
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two,
Not really in the Christmas mood.
Standing right in front of me,
Was a little boy waiting anxiously.
Pacing 'round like little boys do,
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes.

And his clothes were worn and old.
He was dirty from head to toe.
And when it came his time to pay,
I couldn't believe what I heard him say.

"Sir, I wanna buy these shoes,
"For my mama, please.
"It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size.
"Could you hurry, sir?
"Daddy says there's not much time.
"You see, she's been sick for quite a while,
"And I know these shoes will make her smile.
"And I want her to look beautiful,
"If Mama meets Jesus tonight."

He counted pennies for what seemed like years,
Then the cashier said: "Son, there's not enough here."
He searched his pockets frantically.
Then he turned and he looked at me.
He said: "Mama made Christmas good at our house,
"Though most years she just did without.
"Tell me, sir, what am I going to do?
"Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes."

So I laid the money down.
I just had to help him out.
An' I'll never forget the look on his face,
When he said: "Mama's gonna look so great."

I knew I'd caught a glimpse of Heaven's love,
As he thanked me and ran out.
I knew that God had sent that little boy.
To remind me just what Christmas is all about.

(Children's Choir.)

"I want her to look beautiful,
"If Mama meets Jesus tonight."

That was my wedding song

I'll Be

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful • Stop me and steal my breath • Emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky • Never revealing their depth • Tell me that we belong together Dress it up with the trappings of love • I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips • Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above • I'll be your cryin' shoulder • I'll be love suicide • I'll be better when I'm older • I'll be the greatest fan of your life • Rain falls angry on the tin roof • As we lie awake in my bed • You're my survival, you're my living proof • My love is alive and not dead • Tell me that we belong together • Dress it up in the trappings of love • I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips • Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above • Chorus • I've dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead • Tuned in, turned on, remembered the thing you said • Chorus

WhenI was little, Mamma always played Patsy Cline.

I used to listen and sing along,
but now that I am married,

the one song that will make me cry

is "She's Got You."

"I've got the picture that you gave to me...
"I've got the ring you gave when you promised...
"i've got the records we shared....

I've got your memories...
She's got you."

That really haunts me.

My mom got divirced when I was only 6 months old.
My sister was married for 9 months and then
 her marriage dissolved into fists.....
My second sister was married only 3 weeks...
her husband choked to death on pizza while
watching a baseball game in another room.

I warned my hubby about the "bad luck"
that follows my family... and knock on wood....
He believes his good luck cancels out my bad stuff.

After 7 years, he still thinks he's right.
and I pray every night that he is right.
(Wink)

hugs for the tear jerker songs...
Like Patty Loveless "How can I help you say goodbye"
and Scott Krippayne "Every Single Tear"

No one ever said

Steve Warner  "Holes in the Floor of heaven"

I'm with Catlind on this one.  "The Christmas Shoes."  OHIGOD!  I have to pull into the breakdown lane whenever it comes on.  It's either that or switch channels and take the chance of having to listen to Bruce S. sing the worst rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" that was ever made.

Hmmm... a few for me:

"This Woman's Work" - Kate Bush (especially the scene from the film "She's Having a Baby" for which the song was written)

"Hold On" - Sarah McLachlan  - The most heart-wrenching line:

Oh God, if you're out there won't you hear me... I know that we've never talked before... Oh God, the man I love is leaving... won't you take him when he comes to your door (written for a close friend when he died of AIDS)

"The Last Song" - Elton John

"This House" - Alison Moyet
