Steve,

I cannot tell you  how saddened I am for you.  I know how much your dogs mean to you, but Molly may just surprise you AND the Vet.

Give that girl extra attention now.  Steak and lobster for dinner and let her get up on the furniture.  ;)

I'm sorry to hear about Molly, KOP.  This happening around Christmastime makes it even more difficult, although there is no good time to lose a pet/family member.  I'm hoping she will recover, but if not, my condolences.

Oh boy can I relate to this one........there's no words for how you feel I am sure !! My eldery siamese died not long ago....I didn't want to put him down since he still had the drive to lay with the other cats and go up to his catbox and loved layin in his basket in front of the heater.....and he ate good but lost alot of weight that past few months. It doesn't get any easier.....if not HARDER. Could your dogs be gettin into some sort of poisen ? Eatin sumthing toxic can stump the vets and strange test results and also explain comeing and going with how they feel. Dunno WHAT it would be and hope no one would do it on purpose (jerk neighbors or bad kids)......seems to be SUMTHIN is causein it ? Have heard of new carpet or carpet cleaners and all sorts of THINGS like that causeing extreme reactions in animals and a hard case to crack. Am so sorry.....I been there......and I find myself cryin about looseing animals that are still healthy now Pam

Coots may be on to sumthin, although ( fingers crossed) nothing major has happened to my Chloe, I do concur that it may be something Molly has eaten (only as example... anti-freeze) Dogs think it smells good and lo-and-behold its sweet to boot. Search the house for signs of frequent visits by her. The only other thing I have heard of (and I can't remember the name of it) is a very rare virus that only dogs can get, however, if memory serves me correctly it IS contagious... albeit a very remote chance, can't rule it out. One of Our neighbors dogs, contracted it and died within days of showing symptoms, the entire neighborhood had to quarantine their dogs for 5 days as a result. But I remember the symptoms being similar to what you describe. Outside of that, I'm stumped as well.

The loss of a beloved pet really is as bad emotionally as loosing a human companion, in some ways worse.

I'm sorry dude, If I can remember the name of that viri I'll PM you.

So sorry to read your post.

I had to have my collie put down in June as all the explorations exams would have run into Hundreds of pounds and I just could not afford any more.  She had something wrong with her liver but they could not work out exactly was.  She was 13 years old and I felt so very very guilty.  

I have since found out that two other dogs from her litter have died this year of the same problem so it was obviously genetic.  Has helped ease the guilt but I still miss her.  Especially treading over her in the middle of the night  ::) ::)

Try and enjoy Christmas and just keep loving her and make a massive fuss of her.  She already knows you love her to bits, but it will help you.

Me too, Steve, add me to the list of those praying for your miracle this Christmas.
We lost our beloved Moxie (cat) this past September and there will be a hole in our hearts forever. She was with us nearly 20 years.  It was just her time and we had to let her go with the grace that she deserved.

But maybe Molly is different.  Please do heed Cootie's post - she's a smart lady.  Leave no stone unturned, your Molly is counting on you to do that.  Vets have been known to be wrong before - it's still just the "practice" of medicine.  Activated charcoal comes to mind as a cleanser for pets...please read this....?

KOP don't throw in the towel yet.

Her gums are obviously white because of depleted red blood cells, awa her tongue.  Try to get her red blood count up and her body might fight and do the rest.
Try giving her blood and raw egg.  She won't like it, use a syringe without the needle, to squirt it down her throat every hour about 10ml.

Also give her 1/2 a disprin/aspirin, 3x a day.  She might just survive.

Hope like hell it aint antifreeze, tiny amount will kill a dog, My chow mix weighd over 40 lbs got some on his paws digging at fence where neighbor sat a radiator. his kidneys failed and even thought it didnt kill him the seizures for 3 years got progressivly worse so we had to put him to sleep. I sat with him till it was over and he died on my lap with me holding him and bawling like a big baby. pray you dont have to go through that and your best friend doesnt have to suffer like that. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

OK, ok, now, miracles have happened!
Meantime, it wont hurt to feed her anything she wants-but, then, knowing how much you love Molly, I'll just bet you're doing everything you can.

As the survivor of several pet's lost lives, I can only wring my hands, hope for the best, and remind you what a great life you and Kaya and Molly have had together...........

My heart goes out to you, Steve.

ROCHESTER - Two Rochester-area veterinarians who suspected that dogs were dying from tainted food quickly alerted Cornell University and area veterinarians, helping to prompt a 22-state alert by the dog food company.

Late last week, Drs. Stuart Gluckman and Sara Sanders of Mendon Village Animal Hospital treated several dogs with liver problems. All of the dogs had eaten the same dry dog food, manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods' Gaston, S.C., facility.

On Saturday, they sent food samples to Cornell's Small Animal Hospital and to Diamond. Two toxicology labs have since confirmed that the food was tainted with Aflatoxin, a toxic chemical naturally produced by growth of the fungus aspergillus flavus on corn or other crops.

New York and Pennsylvania stores receive dog food from the Gaston facility, as do 20 other states.

In the past seven days, six Rochester-area dogs have died, most likely from the deadly fungus, and at least eight more are being treated for damage caused by the toxin, Sanders said. "Our fear is that this is just the tip of the iceberg."

Late Wednesday, Diamond Pet Foods issued a statement that the deadly toxin was found in dog - and cat- food made in its Gaston facility.

Dr. Sharon Center, a professor of internal medicine at Cornell's Small Animal Hospital and a liver specialist, has been treating some of the dogs. She praised the quick action of the Mendon vets. They "probably saved a lot of dogs by figuring it out that fast," she said.

I saw a news report yesterday on the Diamond Dog Food Company.  Seems they produced some food under several names that is poisonous to dogs.  Seeing as they can't seem to find the root cause - Check you dog's food and make sure it wasn't made by Diamond.  I hope this helps.

Something isn't right here KOP. If your dog got that sick and ate the Diamond food. Is this food manufacturer sure it isn't other food too ? I'd be kinda leary to think it wasn't the diamond food. Seems an awful coincidence that your dog is sick after eating the stuff they say is o.k.  >:(

KOP! Just saw the same thing on the 10:00pm news on FOX!  Popped on here to let you know the same as minnie, about the dog food from Diamond or Professional!!! Is your dog ok?????

How is the dog........sure does sound like poisoning.....the other dog wouldn't of gotten into the thrown out food would it sumhow or do I have the dogs mixed up ? Pedigree is a good food and more affordable.......some kennels recommend it.......I know alot of people that love Old Roy.......they have a lamb and rice I think. But I think alot of the cheap foods use cheap fillers and no way around that........and when I switched to Pedigree or Purina I had 3 times more dog poop in my dog runs......I mean it was BAZAAR the difference. I had so much crap the one day after switching that I was in shock !! Each dog run was smeared with it and probly 10 piles like a mini horse had been in there verses 3 small drier piles. So I found out expirmenting with other good brands that fillers just FILL the dog up and go rite thru them that's all and nutrition is added with other means like powerders or additives verses REAL FOOD VALUE. There still supposed to be good brands but I found out you do get what ya pay for. Prices are out of control like everything else. Stay away from Retriever Brand too......I think Tractor supply sells that and have heard of several dogs getting sick on it and lots of hair loss. Probly lacking sumthing they NEED to survive causeing the imbalance for that to happen. It's all a guessing game.....they found out several years back cats HAD to have "torrien" (spelling) for healthy muscles and eye functions but it wasn't included in cat food yet. Lots of animals die too young from liver and kidney failure I blame on the food guessing games.......too much of this or that and it overworks them both or becomes toxic and builds up with some of the additives. I've stuck with Iam's for the dogs and Eukabeena for the cats cuz they have teeny bites for them older cats can chew. Alot of ingredients in pet foods comes from slaughter'd animals cancer's diseases infections and all and they are sayin that is NOT cool. Live to kill Pam
