Title: DVD slayer...............
Post by cootie on Dec 21st, 2005, 7:34pm
Got a new DVD player (first one actually) about 2 years ago for Xmas and only watched a movie on it once about a year ago. Went to watch a movie tonight and it won't show video yet there is sound ? I had it unplugged for the last several months cuz of storms or sumthin. Anyhow.....I unplugged all the connections to the tv in the back and it didn't even faze it. Got the dreaded blue screen. We tried all the tv stations and statillite settings. Sound but no video. Could sumthin be blow out in the DVD or what....sound plays on all the tv stations tho when DVD is on play....said it should be set on channel two but no difference. Wonderin if any of you techy's had a clue.......man is that frustrateing. I jus wanna put in the cd and watch it not put in codes and all that programming. Could it bein unplugged mess it up.....(rest codes or sumthin I don't understand ?)....but since were gettin sound I wonder. Thanks for shopping at K-Mart Pam

You should have 3 plugs. 2 are for sound (left/right), the other is for the video. Sounds like you have the video unplugged, or plugged into the wrong slot. Also make sure your t.v. or stereo is set to the right video mode. Most t.v.'s have several input modes. Video 1, video 2 etc. The one you're video plug is on, should be what your t.v. stereo is selected to. Your dvd player will not mess up just because it has been unplugged.

Good luck.

Thanks guys......NONE of the plugs into the tv have been messed with since we used it last......nothing changed there. But I had unplugged the DVD and left it that way cuz of some bad storms that were rollin thru some time ago. So I am thinkin that rules out havein the audio zapped out unless it happen'd to the tv's audio plug ? We have had a million surgers and power outages cuz of lightening and tree's falling and WIRES fallin the past few years so was thinking it damaged the tv OR the DVD? But jiggling the plugs does not even BLIP the tv screen and all are plugged in fine. No traffic around the plug areas or wire areas either back there to mess anything up. Maybe I am in the wrong mode....I mean it is......har-har......dam there is nothin MORE frustrateing then complicated wire crap. We tried everything we could.......VCR tabs and you name it. Got 3 remotes to work with.......only thing changed is it was unplugged that's it. I am so stumped I feel shorter Pam

Gave me a headache..........what a pain and Brad got TESTY....so we gave it up for a while........ [smiley=huh.gif]

Does your DVD player have a switch or button to change it from interlace to progressive?  I know Apex brand DVD players have a small button on the remote labelled "I/P"  Other brands may have something similar.  If the DVD player is set to progressive, and you are using an interlaced television, you'll get sound, but no video (Most televisions are interlaced.  Newer HDTVs, plasmas, and LCD TVs may have progressive inputs.)

Oh gosh.....I dunno.......? It worked before and I jus tried it again......I think one of the plugs is not gettin a signal either in the tv or dvd........when it is playing you can plug and unplug the audio and would THINK you'd see SOME SORT OF blip in the screen if ya was interferrin with a signal and it was set rite. NOTHING has been changed since last time it was on or used. So am wonderin if THAT could be a possibility ? Had a stero do that for no reason and one of the aux or whataver plugs went DEAD. I think Brad blew it out tho when he plugged in a mic for a harmonica and the sound was too loud. Either way....could jus one of the plugs (inlets or outlets) be dead cuz of power off and on from storms.....sub stationd down the road caught on fire once and quit recently......trees down and lines burning and lights flashing crap ???? We live in a vitural jungle down here in this valley. Several counties are heavlily tree'd and valleys with trees playin with the power lines. Could that be it ? Wait a minute.....dam thing has been unplugged most of the summer cuz of storms and not useing it ??
Maybe it happen'd previous ? DVD dumbie Pam

I think I need to shud up.......holiday ho-ho's has me talkin in circles................thanks for all the advice guys !!!

Check the cables first. Since you have sound but no video, disconnect the yellow video cable on both units, and replace with the red or white cables.

Or

Take the unit to a friends house, and plug it in to their TV.

Or

Buy another filthy POS rice filled unit from your local Wallmart for $79.95
