Thankful I found this board

Hi Everyone,

My name is Kristen, I am 27 years old, and I have been suffering with episodic CH's for the past 12 years.

I have gone as long as 5 years without a headache, and doom knocked on my door again about 6 weeks ago. For years the only way I dealt with them, was an ice pack, crying, and pacing. No doctor ever knew what was wrong with me. MRI upon MRI revealed nothing.  2 weeks ago, I made an appointment with a neurologist, and he was the first doctor in 12 years to figure it out. I went with printouts from this board. He prescribed me Verapamil, once a day, and Imitrex shots. I am at the point right now where they are only lasting about 20 minutes or so without meds. I only have 3 shots left, and because of me medical insurance, I cant get another 4 for 20 days. So, I have been suffering without the meds, just in case I get a real whammy. Mine are like clockwork. 10 pm, and 5 pm. I find that the trex shots really work for me. When I get my 5 am CH, I usually log on here and read, and before I know it, its gone.

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thank you to ALL of you, for being here, sharing your experiences, and giving helpful advice.

Hi Kristen

If you haven't already, do investigate the 02 as abortive.  For those of us it works for . . .  is a miracle!  I can't take Imitrex and 02 is my only abortive . . . and it works for most of them.  Verapamil is my preventative and I also take 6mg Melatonin . . . also water/water/water.

  Welcome to the family,

One of the hypnothingy.  LOL

Here is a website that lets you see the different layers of the brain via MRI/PET Scan.  Select the box that say Show List.  On the popup page, scroll down to Brain-Axial to the right of Diencephalon you'll see the option for hypothalamus.

Welcome to CH family online, Kristen!  Smiley

I am so sorry that you have CH, though... Sad
I wish that one one had it.

But I am glad that you found this site. It must have been horrible for you to suffer so long time alone.

Best wishes & PFdays,

Sandie
