UndecidedWent to see a neurologist who could only talk about the army and what the heck we are doing in IRAQ to my husband since he found out that we were both in the Army.  Told me he wouldn't perscribe me oxygen but said it might help.  What to do???  Also did the prednisone tapper and started first on 80mg Verap. and now on 120mg.  Along with Imitrex injectables.

Is it classic to never be pain free as some have mentioned in the shadows?

When is considered Chronic?

Occasionally I get sharp pains on my right which confusses me with the majority happening on the Left to include the wappers.  Any one else get this.

So sorry I am playing the 20 question game but I feel so lost... Huh

Hey.. you're not lost....we're here for you.....Smiley

I can answer a few of your questions.

Sounds like a frustrating appt with the doctor. I'd print out the oxygen info( link in vertical bar to the left of your screen) from this site and give to him and ask again. You can get welders oxygen if he's still no help and there are people here and past posts that can help with more info on that.

PF time varies from person ot person and lots of us get low grade CH "shadows" that kind of hang around. Even if we are not chronic.

Chronic is defined by how much PF time you have in a year not sure what that is off hand ......someone will be along to tell you.

And the CH switch sides for me.

Hope this helps some,
be well and PF,

According to IHS:

Criteria for Chronic CH :

Attacks for more than 1 yr without remission or with remission lasting less than 1 month

http://www.headachesupportgroups.com/oxygen/oxygen.htm

There was a period of which I did not have any PF times....constant shadows @ different levels then full blown hits...

That changed and I am mostly PF then get full blown hits usually 2-3 times a day...much better than the 6-7 I was having but still sucks.
It will be trial and error!
Hang in there and research!!!!

Hugs and try to enjoy life!!

SmileyThankyou for the advise.  Some times I wonder how much Dr. really believe.  My primary is good she loads me up with Imitrex injects samples without them I'd really be in trouble.
Being newly diagnosed and the Dr. is not able to answer some of the questions it is nice to have this sight and the ability to share what works and what doesn't.
  Thanks. Smiley

I keep a headache diary.  Always have.

It really helps sometimes when you can go back to a specific time or season and see when the CH was at it's worse.

Maybe you should stick with your Primary doc...and ditch the neuro.   It's sometimes difficult to find a doc that's educated on CH.   If you have one that does know how to treat CH, then stick with that one.

Definitely push the 02 with your Doc.   If the neuro won't give you a Rx for it, then go back to your Primary doc and ask.

Lots of things to try.....not all will work, but any PF time is a good thing!

Good Luck

PF vibes,

Jean

Welders Oxygen and medical grade oxygen are the same thing.

For those who can not get perscriptions, do not have insurance or the $$$ ....

they can get Welders o2 and hook up it up the same way we would via a script.....Sometimes quicker and better because you probably don't get the run around or the wrong masks...etc......

I'm very lucky with my insurance

I use welders oxygen....even though I have a script it's a lot cheaper for me to get it from the welding supply place.  Also, my welding tank is a lot bigger than the medical tank, an important point for those of us with no ins.
