Title: General eye health and CH.......
Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Sep 11th, 2005, 12:33am
Some of you read in another thread, we are talking about eyesight and general eye health.
Anyone know if this has been studied?  Can anyone supply a link to an article, or maybe just talk about this research?

Seems that we are about 5 to 1 in a poll, 5 people have bad eye health, 1 has good vision.  Would Zogby say that 5 people surveyed is a good sample?

Connection between clusters and eye health? I can only give my history.

At age of 27 my clusters started. I had 20/20 eye sight at that time.

At age 52 I had my last "real" cluster bout. Was wearing reading glasses then.

Now, at age 58 I get bouts of shadows and only an occasional "real" (individual) cluster headache. Am now using bi-focals.

Conclusion.....Cluster headaches hurt. And make you old. Getting old makes your eyes go bad.

In other words, I have no idea.

Hey there,

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth cos I actually had my eyes tested on Friday..... apparently in great health!   Have had clusters for nearly 16 yrs ... I'm 36.

I'll answer your question with a potentially interesting tidbit.

"They" say that CHers drink enormous amounts of caffiene and smoke......

The statistics show that as well.

Regardless of the effects on CH it does have an effect on the eyes.

Too much caffiene can lead to occular hypertension.

Not good!

Those of you who get regular eye exams and those who have decent vision should get this checked out.

Side note: Did you mean Goadsby?

I posted a message a year or more ago about the number of eye disorders which can appear to be cluster headache: it was an impressive number of eye/vision disorders.

The key was NOT that  vision problems create cluster but that they can produce cluster-LIKE symptoms--making diagnosis more difficult.

Prior to getting diagnosed, I went through the gammit of tests that so many of us have.

One of them was at the optometrist since I always felt like there was so much pressure behind the eye.

As I realized soon after being diagnosed that cutting down on my caffiene was difficult despite also having occular hypertension.....which caused which???

During the peak of cycle or atleast the peak of what I thought was cycle that started 18+ months ago I drank easily 2 pots a day. So much for cutting back.

Though it has not helped my HA I have cut back recently to about 3-4 cups a day.
Better for overall health.

Get your eyes checked blind guy ;;D

No, I think it's John Zogby, he runs one of the biggest polling companies in the country.  The company is called Zogby.
I think it was Mr Zogby himself that came out in the middle of the day on the election and said it looks like John Kerry would win soundly.......it was then that the right wing started phase 1 of their patented smear campaign against Zogby and his company.

Oh, and btw, I am the caffeine MAN.
I was drinking turkish coffee and espresso before it was even 'cool'.
I have been known to drink 10 shots of espresso with coffee chasers before lunch.......which was chocolate and cola.
But, the thing is, i had really bad eyes before i started on this mad campaign to make Juan Valdez the next Bill Gates.
I know that hypertension is the medical term for elevated blood pressure.....but what is ocular hypertension?

Occular refers to the eye

so just your eye ball itself would have elevated blood pressure?

Had an eye exam with the works last year.

No occular problems here.

The drooping eyelid that starts as a temporary feature of clusters can become permanent.  One person here said that they went to an eye doctor, and during the exam, the doctor asked if that person had clusters - apparently may be some sort of changes that can happen.  I wouldn't be at all suprised to find that the eye on the affected side can develop problems over time.

No.  First, its too small. Second, it is neither random nor systematic.  There is a good chance that people who choose to answer such questions either have real eye problems, or are proud of their 20/20 vision.  People in the middle who are average don't get as excited about the topic and are less likely to respond.
