I got a vasectomy a few years back so we don't worry about that anymore.

Could never take the pill...11 years ago had a hysterectomy.  CH started prior to all this...

I see no connection for me.

I've had CH before the pill, during the pill, and looong after the pill.
I hate the pill. I knew a girl who died at 22 years old with blood clots in her brain. The only risk factor they could come up with was the pill.

Never used the pill and had a hysterectomy 9 years ago when I already had ch, no change.

Hey Ree,

Started on the pill at 18 but stopped around 19 due to side effects - headaches! - think the ch's around 20-21 ??(36 now).  I have wondered about this myself... fine during pregnancy!??

I have CH and enjoy Oral.

Have enjoyed Oral prior to recognizing any clear cut cycles of CH.

May have had CH in my younger years prior to giving or receiving Oral.

Diagnosed last year with having CH after a decade of misdiagnoses and still having Oral.

Turned Chronic in March and still partake in Oral.

Will continue to have CH throughout my life and will not let it take over!!! This will not effect my use of Oral!

I have to live!

Or, to put the question another way

How many women suffering with CH noticed they starting stopped having CH after starting oral contraceptives?
And if they did stop would the pill help a male clusterhead?

Back when on the pill - no clusters.

Stopped the pill after a tubal ligation - still no clusters.

First clusters during premenopause.  Now post-menopause and still having clusters.

No connection that I can see.

In my early 20's I stopped taking the pill when I was told about the meegraine side effects and that because of my HA I was a higher candidate for a stroke if I took them. haven't taken them since. Not diagnosed CH at that time.

I've noticed there seems to be a helluva lot of women on these boards seeing as CH is suppposed to be such a primarily male condition.

First CH appeared while pregnant.  Have since had hysterectomy.  Obviously no connection for me.

Definately not fact, only speculation.  I think many women have been misdiagnosed and are finally getting the correct diagnosis due to more information.  The old books need to be rewritten IMHO.

:)
Never had any headaches until started the pill.
they were more like migraines once a month...
then, when 'i stopped the pill....
I mutated into the CH....
first cycle was only about a week long,
pain levels at a 4 ...and only 4 headaches

then it mutated....again and again....

not sure if the hypothalamus was to blame, and
the pill just made things more messed up...
jury is still out..but it definitely messed up hormones.

EE,

You should be spanked!

On the other hand, you might like that as much as oral!

Maybe you need to take your head out of your ass, reading your colon will not keep you updated on CH ;;D

That ones for you, Mel :-*

Its such a shame that on any message board, especially one claiming to offer support to people, that you will also find one or two with an attitude problem  :(

Kevin wind your neck in mate, you won't find anyone here more supportive than Jonny or anyone who has helped more ch'ers and you'll find a good 50/50 men women split here too.. and you do not want to piss the girls off!!  ;)
Like Mel says, that is a very old and very outdated statement going back to the days when (male) doctors blamed everything women suffered on hormones and hysteria.

And we now know hormones had nothing to do with it.

The tone of my post must have been mis-understood. I was not trying to upset the girls at all. I was just making an observation. I think Mel took it in the inocuous way it was intended.

Excuse me for reacting if someone asks me to take my 'head out of my ass.'

Plus my head has just exploded here as I sit at work - I'm not having a great morning.  :-[

Hysterectomy at 43.  First CH cycle at 53.  No connection whatsoever.

I was on the pill for alot of years, then was a guinea pig for the Norplant transdermal birth control system in Canada (96) and that screwed my life up in many ways, and coincidentally corresponds with what is believed to be the first bout of CH.  Norplant was removed and had another round in 98, then had a tubal.  Diagnosed with endometriosis caused by autoimmune issues, and had an ablation done at which point they removed the tubal clips.  Ayden was born a year later ;)  Have since had a hysterectomy to 'fix' the headaches.  There seems to be no correlation between birth control and my CH.  I started into a 3 month on 3 month off cycle 4 months after Ayden was born (my 3rd child) and have since progressed to chronic.

Not saying there is no connection, because the hypothalamus and it's partners play a role in all hormone function, but I do not believe it was any direct connection in my case.

My latest MRI of a list of many in the last 5 years has shown an 8mm pituitary cyst/tumor.  The neuro surgeon so 'kindly' explained that even if they remove the growth it will not likely remove my clusters or migraines.

Hi Ree, Well, I had a hysterectomy about 9 1/2 years ago and my CH started soon after that and have always been chronic. But then how do we account for the male CH's?    Madaline

I started with CH at age 17.  Went on the pill at age 19.  Been off the pill for 3 years at age 36.  I've had CH every 18 months regardless of pill/ no pill.  Oh, yes, and I still have all my goods!!

Guess I should put in my 2 cents worth...  pill @17, CH'S at 23, now 42. No hysterectomy, tubes tied at 40. In cycle now.

But I love oral too.

Oh wait,.... guess you didn't mean it that way. My bad.  ;;D

No pills, no hysterectomy.

No relation to headaches.

Started getting CH as soon as I started the pill.  When I went off the pill, my cycles stopped. (didn't figure this out for 7 years)  Then when I got a TB test I IMMEDIATELY got an attack.  I was fine through two pregnancies, but exactly 3 1/2 months after each birth, got a six week attack.  My doc says I'm lucky and we know my triggers and that I can be classified as an a typical cluster patient with hormonal triggers.  Lucky me
