Title: Confusion.........
Post by E-Double on Nov 3rd, 2005, 3:32pm
Hate fucking meds!!!!!!!

Spent today nearly in tears for first time in ages.
Not so much because of pain but because of side effects.......... confusion.

Didn't know what I was supposed to be doing, where I was supposed to be going or why I was doing what I was doing.

Memory loss. I'm not even 32 and haven't smoked a J in yrs  ;)

This sucks!

What's worse? The attacks or the depression?

Thanks,
Eric

Oh man.. I totally understand what you're talking about, Eric. Two years ago, I was taking verapamil and using imitrex, and not only was I walking around in a fog most of the time, but my fine motor skills went to hell, too. Throw in depression, sleep deprivation, and the worst, hardest, and longest lasting hits I've ever had, and I was a damn mess. Thank god for this place, because if I would have been going through all that alone, I would have sought a more permanent and final solution, and that's no exaggeration.

You keep on hangin' in there, my friend. It will pass.

My best to you,
-Frank

Hang in there, bud. I know what you mean about memory loss. My wife bitches at me cause I ask her about things that I already asked her about. At least you can blame the meds ;)

CH (clear head) wishes.

Eric

I know exactly what you are saying. I lose things all the time in cycle, I go into rooms with things in my hand, put them down, forget why I was there, leave, do something else then forget what room I put the thing in.

I blamed sleep deprivation but I really feel like CH is blowing gaping great black holes in my brain that never repair. Pregnancy caused some, but now i think my brain is a swiss cheese.

The depression is bad though, especially after a spate of bad attacks and no sleep. Crying is good. I find it releases some tension and actually helps sometimes.

More vibes from me too

My dear Eric,

If you were a woman, I would say blame it on menopause!  I do, even when not in cycle.

Not to make light, my friend.  Sticky notes are a life saver for me ALL the time now.  Hang in there.  Hugs on the way.

The bad part is - you pay so much for the damn meds and then they put you in lala land....

Think I need to buy stock in "Post-it" notes - I use them by the case. They're stuck everywhere from on me to everything in the house. I just blame it on being OLD!!!!

But look at the bright side -- Einestien couldn't remember his phone number... he said it was useless to remember something he could look up easily. So the next time you go into a room for something - write it on a post-it note and call it your Einestien Theory..... :D

It appears that I actually have Lithium toxicity.

Besides the confusion, I also had some numbing, speech problems and some motor difficulty.

I was worried about a mini stroke but spoke to one of the directors of NECH, Dr. Tepper and he was pretty damn sure.

Gonna come off of it and we will see.
I take a small dose to begin with but my body has always been sensitive.

We shall see.

As far as sticky notes and lists go, I am a Behvaior Analyst and know how to change my behavior as well as others. The problem is that I make lists and forget I wrote them or forget what needs to be put on them.

It's the meds and I couldn't live that way anyway.
I need my whits and would rather be in pain.

Thanks again,

E

Hang in there, bro.  I'm right there with ya.  It all sucks, but the attacks are the worst because they cause all the rest.  If you can get rid of the attacks everything else follows.  Now we just need to figure out how to get rid of the attacks and live through it with our minds and bodies in tact.

I haven't done a doobie since probably 1982.  Maybe we need to slip out back at the next convention and get mellow.  Nah.  Our luck, it'll probably trigger another attack.

Hoping you get some relief soon.

Sorry for the confusion, man.
Hang in.  If you get a big doobie, and a tank of O2, maybe you can smoke the doobie and laugh at your confusion, then hit the O2 hard.
Just a thought.

Eric I have to say sorry and thank you in the same breath.

Sorry that you are going through this and all the other CHers, I HATE this condition and its trappings.

Thank you that you make me feel not so alone in this by telling us what you are going through.

It is hell to feel like a fool because your speech, motor skills and memory lacks the ability to function co-ordinated.

But in our co-ordinated moments we are geniuses!  Hang onto that knowledge otherwise use a "post-it" note on the fridge ;;D

STICKY NOTE #1:

DON'T FORGET:
Extinguish all doobies BEFORE turning on the O2!

I use one of those hand-held dictaphones.  It holds a couple of minutes of verbal "memos" and it doesn't blow away like  post-its.  They are cheap and you can get them almost anywhere.

Hey folks,
I feel I need to say this it's important, please listen....

Lithium Toxicity is not something that can be repaired with a  post it note. It is not a simple memory loss side effect, it is dangerous and if not caught and treated properly under a doctor's care can result in awful things. (you all can google to check for yourselves)

Eric's symptons rapidly escallated ... he called his doc, took care of it and he will be fine, thank goodness.

Please ...if you are taking Lithium, be very aware of your bahavior and blood levels. tell those around you what to look for in toxicity...with any med ...if you don't feel right..call your doc!!!

Hugs for all!

Eric,

I'm so pleased to hear you got that sorted!

Geez tipping the balance - so hard when you're taking these f*&^% meds and having to deal with this f%*& condition - what is too much??  Hard to determine when side effects from meds seem ineviatable and having to cope with fuzzy logic due to sleep deprivation!!!

We don't want to hear anymore stories like - was it alchemy? - who ended up in a coma on life support ! I mean shit!

Thanks for sharing with us - that's the beauty of this place for sure! I was just thinking earlier what a difference this site has made in my life - pain is such a lonley place to be and when the docs don't listen and your friends and family just can't understand the true impact....right here is as Dr Phil would say  ::) a soft place to fall.  I'm rambling  ::)

Anyway, perhaps we might be more vigilant with getting our meds etc sorted rather than putting up with the f*&^% medical establishment, and dealing with side effects that surely can be minimised?

Thanks again Eric for sharing - seems for all our individual grief there is another side to the coin.  I'm ever amazed at what I find on here.

PFDAN,

Kate
