Title: More than 2 shots in 24 hours
Post by mabus on Nov 12th, 2005, 6:02pm
I know the prescription says no more than 2 statdoses in a 24 hr period, but when push comes to shove (your head against the wall),  there have been times when I exceeded the recommended max.

Not to condone misuse, but I'm curious what physical issues people have encountered when they exceed the reccomended dosage.

I think I might have hit the peak for this cycle 2 days ago.  We'll see how tonight is.

Mabus, I think Svenn will tell you that for CHers the dosage can be higher per day, I just don't know how high.  Please wait for him or someone more qualified than me to answer you back before you increase the dosage.

Just be carefull if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition.  You see, I have a very low BP and must confess that when I have the stuff, I use maybe a tinge more than prescribed.

Try the "imitrex tip" on the left.  It really works and you might then, perhaps not exceed the prescribed dosage.

Sorry that you're going through such a rough time.  Hang in there.

Jas ;)

Thanks for the point in the right direction.  That's very helpful.  I'm graced with 116/70 and a strong heart.  Lucky me.

I'll check into the bulk vial as well.  My doc will pretty much give me as much as I need, he understands fully.  My insurance company will only fill it once (3 x 2pk) in a 15 day period.  The rest is on me.  As it the needles don't hurt enough....

Sorry you are having such a tough time.  I would check with your doc about getting the vials so you can see if a slightly smaller dose will give you relief.  If you could take 4mg shots instead of 6mg shots, you can get 3 uses with the same amount of medicide.  Then you wouldnt be over the max anyway.
Have you ever tried to take a smaller dose before?
PF wishes

I assume it is imitrex injections your referring to.
Many years ago would shoot up to 8 a day. for a period of maybe 5 months.

Issues were more headaches.
I dont recall other physical issues of any significance.

MJ

edit to add: it was 12 years ago with imitrex inj. product may have changed since then I dont know.

Just to clarify...stat doses come in 6mg pre filled...vials come in 6mg vials.

Many have found that 2 or 3 mg will abort an attack just as well as a full 6, thus either double or trippeling your number of aborts.

Be it once a day, or 5x a day, the savings in the wallet are wonderful, but there is the added bonus of less chance for the increase in attacks, and fewer post attack effects such as the trex hangover/whiped out feeling.

There is a tip to the left to help you get by untill you can get the vials and syringes..

Best to you...keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies.  Last night was hell, and I'm pretty shadowed this AM.  Finally got some decent sleep at 5:30, the Beast visited I think 6 x.  I tried the manual reduction tip, and 2 mg is too little for more than an hours relief, and I knew he was hiding the whole time.  3 mg seemed to do better, but I'm sensing that 4 mg maybe be the magic #.  I'm hoping when I see my doc tomorrow, I'll be able to access it via vial.  I think I have enough for tonight - if I need it.  The thigh is beginning to resemble swiss cheese.
