Title: Restless Legs Syndrome and CH?
Post by Revolvr on Nov 16th, 2005, 2:13pm

Has anyone found a possible connection between CH episodes and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)?

Late last year as a CH episode tapered off I began to have trouble with RLS. Bad enough there were a few nights I didn't get any sleep.

I thought it might be more a side effect of the medications I was taking for the CH episode (Depakote and Topamax - neither of which actually helped the CH episode). Once I tapered off the meds the RLS seemed to mostly go away.

Lately RLS has come back, but along with a  few other early signs of a possible CH episode - fatigue, malaise, occasional warm feeling on the side of my head, and one or two possible light Shadows.

Just wondered if anyone else had found a relationship between the two. Did a search and didn't find anything.

Cheers

My father has CH and RLS.  I have CH but no RLS.  Don't know if there is a connection or not.

Hi Revolver

Barry from downunder here.

I get RLS & restles arm along with exploding head, this has come on after my CH finnished.
Currently I am in Perth seing a Nuro ( had to travel 2000Km to see one ) he has put me on Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 10mg, only been on it for three nights but it appears to be doing the trick, reduced the incidence to perhaps one minor one just after going to bed.

The generic name of the one I am taking is ENDEP it's not an OTC drug you need a script but your Nuro or GP will look into that.

The drug is an anti depressant but has other uses.

Kind Regards
Barry

Restless Legs Syndrome
Involantry muscle movement or spasm, same goes for arm head etc, although exploding head is rather like a mini cluster that lasts for a split second and would only rate a 3 on the KIP.

Barry

I have RLS, but just occasionally. I never connected it to CH. I'm chronic and don't have it all the time - just every once in a while. I'm on topamax and trazadone and have been  since 99.

I'll ask my neuro about it the next visit. I just thought my legs were tired and when they get really bad I just get up and stretch them or do knee bends till they get really tired then get back in bed till they get still.

RLS? Try eating a banana every day or go get some potassium pills.

Bob you may have something there. For years I took mega doses of vitamins (potassium included) and didn't have trouble with RLS). But I don't think it has anything to do with CH cause when I was a kid I had it (back before CH) and mom always said it was just growing pains when I complained (mom never had any sympathy for any complaints - if it wasn't blood shooting out of a vein or artery - it didn't require any attention!). Over the years it would pop up periodically and I'd just exercise it away or take vitamins and it'd disappear again until it popped up again.

Maybe potassium is the key.... Think I'll go back to that.  Thanks for the reminder.

Hugs BD
