Medical care sucks, at times. Medical care sucks over there, at times.
But there is one thing, here, that I would NOT give up, and go to Europe for care. SPEED! I know of a European Clusterville resident who had a partially blocked vein or artery (I forgot which), just like I had. When mine was discovered, I was not sent home, but rushed to the operating room, and a stent installed. My European friend was sent home to wait to get scheduled in. I forgot exactly how long he had to wait, but I think it was EIGHT MONTHS later. By the time they did they same stent implant that I had done, his vein/artery was over 90% blocked!
There is another European clusterhead who was told he is a HIGH PRIORITY case that needs a bypass operation. What is he doing right now? Sitting home waiting "within four months" for his surgery to take place.
I will be the first to jump up and complain about problems with medical care here in the states. But, would I want to wait 4 to 8 months for EMERGENCY surgery? NO FREEKING WAY!!! I am staying here!

You are SO RIGHT! Things aren't as great in this bit of Europe as you might think.
We may pay £6 for our prescriptions (for which I am hugely grateful when I found out how much treating CH costs you in the US) BUT:
We can wait a week to see a GP
We can wait 12 months to see a neurologist
As you say, you can wait many months for an urgent, lifesaving operation
We can be 'struck off' a GP's list and be unable to register with another
If we don't like the way we are treated it is a painful business to change our doctor
Many people are not given the right CH treatment due to expense (the surgery budgets are not big enough) and are palmed off with cheaper and useless drugs.
Many people here now opt for private insurance as the National Health Service is in such a state.
It's not all bad, but it isn't as rosy as people believe.
