Does anyone else feel 10 IQ points lower the day after a cluster headache? It seems hard to focus at work.

Hiya Sean,

Pretty hard to focus after one gets their A$$ kicked from the inside out!!!

I only dropped IQ points when I was taking Topamax Wink

Welcome new friend!

People are here anytime day or night and will always be around for support on many levels!

Are ya episodic or chronic?
How long have ya been dealing with the beast?
Lucky with any treatments?

Plenty to take in so take your time and get comfortable.

Good luck on your journey!

I got hit so hard in the AM by a CH, then I think it was a rebound, between that and the meds.

I stayed home from work today, cause I couldn't even think to drive..

As E said it sucks getting your head KICKED in from the inside/out from the BEAST.

Sleep deprivation is not just for insomniac's.  Add to it 4-5 beatings every night and its tough for anyone to function.  Do this for weeks months or years and you have cluster sufferers.  What luck - we're all here.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help! It is nice to speak to someone who understands.

It sounds like you guys have it way worse than me. I was getting them for a few weeks in the fall for the last 4 years, but only one a night. They started again about two weeks ago. Imitrex works for me. Shoud I expect it to get worse? How did it develop for you?

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

I went 18 cycles episodic and un/misdiagnosed.
1yr ago spring cycle began and went heywire..found this place and wound up getting a proper diagnosis as well as learned how to live life again.

My latest cycle never broke and I have become chronic....Doesn't make a difference to me to be honest, in fact less dread because I know what to expect everyday. I was a lot "worse off" when I used to pray for them to leave or questioned when it would end....IT IS WHAT IT IS...for now

Good point, Jonny. Thanks for the note.

E-Dub 18years!
I know what you mean by peace. My first bad year I went grey worrying, about how much Imitrex I had at any given time, could I get more, was th doctor gonna give me a script, did CVS have inventory.

I have little fear anymore, especially any kind of physical pain, nothing can be worse.

Welcome to the family, Sean.

I'm also episodic, though luckily several years apart for each episode.  Trex is my savior, but since my cycles last about 10 weeks, I've also found Verapamil at high dose (480mg/day) to cut the cycles down by several weeks.

Like you, my first few cycles I had 1 HA each night at about the same time.  My last cycle changed and at peak I had 2-3 each day.  That doesn't mean that will happen to you.  After being on this board for awhile, I've sure learned that we're all different and the beast likes to mix things up - like maybe you're cycles are changing pattern a little.

At any rate, as Eric said ... the light is always on here.

Hugs,

Kris

This CH. Expect nothing. Expect everything.

I cant drop 10 points. It will validate my opponents claim that I am an idiot.

Come to think of it my friends and family make the same claim.

Fuck it! Pass the drool cup.

Whenever I'm in cycle I have "recall" issues and a seeming inability to pull words out. (Many here believe I actually regularly pull them out of my ass anyway)  But seriously, it just seems that speaking and writing is more difficult as I almost feel like i'm having to search and retrieve words, one at a time to convey many things.

This, for me, is one of the many troubling aspects of CH as it does make you wonder what all is happening "in there".

Same here Scott but for me it is near the end of my cycle with the sleep deprivation.   Too many butt kickings over a long enough period of time make it hard to focus.  IQ points... I don't think those drop but when I'm in cycle I tend to be a little manic ...

After a CH attack my cognitive abilities drop to that of a Microsoft user, nearly as low as a Mac user.
