I am here because I have a friend in Nigeria who may have cluster
headaches. I met him online 2 years ago. Today he was
describing his symptoms for the first time. I thought it sounded like cluster headache, but I want your impression. Here are his symptoms in his own words.

L.A.    I like to tell u that, it was started when i was
3 months old.

It seem to trouble me perhaps two times in a yr.

U know i can only explain how it really worries me.

When it started, it will pain me as if as there is a stone inside it.

I would find it difficult to look into light/ bulb.

Some times it may last for 2/ 3 weeks, b/4 coming to normal situation

K2E: and do you get the feeling in both eyes or
only one?
L.A.: both. Even ,i'll feel runing nose

K2E: Running nose? Interesting. Did you say it
makes you sick to your stomach?
L.A.: no,it only affect within my forhead

K2E: what else, running nose, stone in eye,
difficulty looking at light...does your forehead hurt?
L.A.: when i consulted a medicle doc. he gave me a
spectacle, but ,it didnt work for it
anis4uu (9:39:22 AM): really seriuos hurting

K2E: serious head pain?
L.A.: yes

K2E: does it stay strongly painful for days, or
are there many short headaches in a group? (Cluster headaches)
I think it could be cluster headaches.

L.A.: just few minutes. It comes and goes. It pain me for few minute not too long

So there you have it.  Can you help us in any way? I am hoping we could diagnose him and then send him information for his doctor.  So far, he has not had any  kind of pain relief at all in 24 years. I would love to change that.

I thank you all for any help and support.
Blessings, Karen

G'day Karen, it's nice you're trying to help a friend and there's only one place to start.

Over on the left, third down under 'new visitors' is the cluster quiz. Help him through this but ensure the answers are his own.

Good luck and kind regards,

Brian.

If it only lasts for a few minutes each time it sounds more like paroxysmal hemicrania which is very similar to cluster headaches but rarer so harder to diagnose. The good news is its extremely responsive to a medicine called indocin or indomethacin (depending on where you live!) However none of us here are doctors and can only give you advice based on our own experiences. I would suggest you read the site, look at the linked quiz from the cluster quiz on the left also and also read up on PH. Print up some stuff and send it to him or email him the links for him to take to his doctor for help with a diagnosis there.
Let us know how you both get on and thank you for trying to be a good friend!

I am not a doctor but, IMHO, I say he does not have cluster headaches.

Thanks BB and everyone who responded! , You're right. I am so glad to agree that there are some key elements missing. Thank you to the person who suggested paroxysmal hemicrania. That's what I am looking into next.  Best of luck to everyone here. I'm terribly sorry to hear about this type of headache and to know people have to go through this.

I doubt that these are clusters too. Clusters will wake you out of a cold sleep, usually last longer and you cannot sit still.

I'm hoping I'm right but let us know how things work out, anyway.
