Title: I'm new and need to talk to poeple that understand
Post by The_Kid on Jan 29th, 2004, 3:48pm
I choose my screen name the kid because i've been a clusterhead since i was 14.  My doctors always just thought that i had migrains a lot.  But i really don't have a lot of money so it is hard to even go see a doctor about the pain.  So i've tried everything to prevent the migrians (clusters) from coming on.  I went 2 months of never looking at a tv or computer because a doctor said that it MIGHT be a cause.  I've gone on very striked dietes to hopefully prevent an episode.  I've done several thing and none of them work.  Most recentlay around my 18th b-day my new doctor finally figured it out and told me that i had cluster headaches.  He had me try Prednison and Verapimil.  Both had no effect.  I need help badlly.  The clusters caused me to drop out of school and i can barely work (i have to call in sick all of the time).  I'm afriad to sleep or eat or well do anything.  It was out of pure desperation that i came searching for you guys.

> Just so you now about me i have moved all my life and have never really settled down.  I've had at least migrians since i can remember( my lovely mother passed that nice trait on to me).  I have a beatiful, caring, and conserned girlfriend of 2 and a half years.  My family tries to help but their busy and can't always be their for me.  That's what i'm hoping you guys can help with.

Any suggestions, sympathy,  or just a hello will be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

P.S.- is it weird that i've been a clusterhead this long and this early in my life? Do i have hope for the futrue?

Try melatonin, it's cheap and readily available, see if you can get some samples of zomig or amerge from a doc, they should have some for people like yourself who don't have good insurance.  Welcome, and there is always hope as long as you're breathing.

Sorry to read that the animal has chosen to reside within you.  This is the place to come to for support, empathy and the occasional kick to the back side to keep you fighting the beast head on.

Sorry that CH is in the way of the job.  It happens to many of us.

Thankful that you have a caring partner.  Have her check out the supporter MB.

Welcome to the family

Welcome Kid,
Have you tried oxygen to abort your headaches? If not you should try and get your Dr to prescribe it. It has been a life saver for me and many others here. It's fairly cheap with minimal side effects and it will usually kill my h/a's in under 10 minutes.
There's a lot of good info here so read, read, read!

hey Kid ,
try the melatonin, it worked great for me, most people need 9mg but I needed 12mg a day to keep the beast ( that's what we call it ) at bay. Also try these abortives and preventatives.

Sorry to see you here.

You might ask your doctor for  lithium carbonate (Eskalith) in combination with the verapamil. This has worked reasonably well for me since '86. 480 mg of verapamil and 900 mg of lithium spread out in doses over the day.

Eskalith is not too terribly expensive.

Hey Kid,
I had my first cluster at 13. I wasn't as lucky as you, I wasn't diagnosed until 21.

I'm 45 and still have them. Also managed to get through college, get married and have 2 great kid.

See  ;)  there is always hope. Hang in there. If nothing else, these damn things do make you stronger.

Hey KID,
Sorry you have to find us. But this is a great site to learn about CH. i myself have had CH for 5 years now. The past two years i have been cluster free till three weeks ago. Mine cycle usual last 4 to 6 weeks.
I take ZOMIG, IMITREX INJECTIONS and OXYGEN.

Ask your doc. for some ZOMIG samples, they should have some.

O2 is a wonderful thing

Hang in there Kid, you will get through this.  I had my first CH in '69 and it took till the the mid 80's before I knew what the hell was going on with me.  Been dealing with the beast for 35 years, still alive and kicking!  You can get through this and were all here pulling for ya.

Hi Kid,

Welcome to the family.  Miklos and Jonny both nailed it, and the others with the O2 recommendation.  Put the three together and there is a very good liklyhood you can beat this thing.  At least to the point of having a life again.  Find a way to get back into school as soon as you can get a handle on these things, and get on with your life.  You are to young togive up now!!!  You CAN do it!

Jerry

Welcome Kid,

Sorry you have to be here, but with CH, Clusterville is the place to be. There's usually someone around here 24/7.

On your meds -- ask you doc (or his nurse) about the Patients in Need (PIN) program. There's a little paperwork (some companies require your income tax) about your financial status. BUT, if you qualify, the meds are about $5 a script. Each pharm company has their own form, but the doc office should have them. You have to ASK for it tho.

Wishing you PF days in the future.

Hugs BD

Welcome Kid.

Don't let the beast beat you.  Keep looking for the right med mix for you.  Keep fighting.  Never ever let up.

After all, it's your life and he must not win.

Welcome aboard kid and sorry you had reason to find us. If you stick around you'll find some good ideas and ways to deal with this horror.

I'm posting two links for you. One is for a technique that works for me and the younger you are, the better.  The second is to a description of your headaches that you can copy and give to your employers, family and friends. It's worth a look.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing.
