Title: oxygen my life line
Post by tracey on Apr 13th, 2004, 4:51am
i have now been diagnosed as having cluster, after weeks of trying everything under the sun they have decided to give me the big o2 and my god it is some relief, instead of having to suffer for two hours my pain is over in 20 minutes.  however i need some advice, i am a ward manager and it is not always appropriate for me to keep sucking oxygen when i have an attack, what else works that is less obvious. any answers please, cause i am getting fed up with these headaches ruling my life, i want to be in control of it......  i thank god that i am not alone and that i can turn to you guys for help when no one else understands.  If i had amputated my hand people would understand and see the pain... wouldnt they but cause its in my head no-one understands.

A ward manager in a hospital?  Lucky for you.....all the O2 ya need...an endless supply..we wish we had that. Do what you have to do...and that's what your doing now correct?

What do you mean you are a ward manager?

In a pysch ward?

The thing is they have small oxygen tanks that can be placed on carts. So you can literally walk around with a cart of oxygen. Sort of like a shopping cart.

You may look a little funny, but at least your head isn't exploding.

I second the imitrex injection for work related circumstances.  Last year it would abort my headache within 5 minutes.

If you are ever stuck somewhere with nothing an ice pack can help..even a bag of frozen peas! But if its a bad one you will have to take it.

Imitrex definately seems to be the best but I try to use mine sparingly and save them for the worst ones.  I travel and alway's keep a cooler full of Ice cold drinks close by.  Placing the cold can on the affected eye seems to make the pain tolerable on a moderate cluster.  I keep several so when one starts to get warm I swap out!  Might not help you but worth a try
