I'm in a blue funk....

Yesterday I lost a good friend. A doctor in my hometown. I talked to his wife on Thursday and she said he wouldn't be with us by the weekend (he'd discontinued his dialysis).

I've just been remembering all the "good" things he did during the time I've known him.

After doctors quit making house calls, my grandmother finally got down and had to go to bed (she was 96). Bob would come by and have "coffee" with mother about every other day and while he was there, he'd go "visit" with Lucy B. If he couldn't make it, his partner would be there.

He was a great dancer - we used to party with them back when we were younger. One night we were dancing a "little" close to the swimming pool and we dipped one time too many (it was a warm night thank goodness).  His wife taught my son how to play tennis and he found a sport he really loved and lettered in it in high school.

I've just been in a blue funk since Joyce told me he'd died.

Barbara, I am so sorry! There is never a good time or season for loss like this, but it sounds like you have a whole bunch of good memories to hang onto. Cling to those, it will help!

Barb, I am so sorry to hear the news of your friend's passing.  I know you are missing him but like Tim said, hold onto those memories and think of how lucky you are to have had this wonderful man in your life.  People like him are few and far between.

Big, big hugs to you and please send my condolances to his family, k?

Hi Barb,

What a a classy guy. My condolences on your loss and delight in your warm memories.

Reminds me of my own grandmother and her Doc. He too visited, wouldn't hear of no house calls, even after the following.  She was 4' 11" with apartment ceilings to match. He was 6' 4" and one visit nearly knocked himself cold hitting his head on her stairway ceiling. Entered with a smile and kept coming back (although with a stoop Smiley. It became a family legend.

Same guys son was my best friend. Nearly every time I visited their house there would be a different guy doing "chores". I only had to ask one time who that was. Turns out Doc D never refused treating those who couldn't afford it. He just took it in trade. Another classy guy..

Prayers and thoughts to your friends family and you,

Jon
