Title: Drunk drivers............
Post by Woobie on Jan 10th, 2006, 10:06pm
So, I worked with a girl named April.   She was married about 3 years ago - totally in love.  Was due to have her first baby on Jan 24.  just 2 weeks

She was driving home from work.
Drunk driver hit her head on - killed her and the baby... and HiS passenger.   He lives.

April's husband will never recover.   He might as well have died in the crash too.

Can you imagine?

The laid April to rest Monday, with her baby in her arms... dressed in the outfit they had chosen for her to come home from the hospital in.   She was a girl, and her name was Addison.

These people had lives.. they had reasons to live, and things to look forward to.   That baby was going to be loved.   It's all so fucking stupid.

This was the FIFTH casualty that April's family has had to go thru because of drunk drivers.   FIVE in ONE family.
AMAZING.

that is all :'(   This shit makes me sick.

Oh Woobs,  I'm so sorry to hear this...   :'(

This kind of senseless-ness is just heartbreaking and maddening.  We recently had a baby die in our NICU because the mom had been in a very bad car accident.  The mom was in the ICU, but survived and recovered back to "normal."  Normal...without the baby....  :(  I don't know if alcohol was involved in that crash, but any time it takes the life of a mother and baby - it's just too awful for words...

I hate that people drink and drive and are so irresponsible.  With all the horror stories, why do people still continue to do this???  When I was in high school, I was in a drug and alcohol abuse education program called Impact, and we had a day of the dead where we'd have our faces painted and couldn't speak all day long - it was to represent those killed by drunk drivers.  A powerful impact, yet still kids drive drunk just the same.

When I read in the paper that she worked at your casino, I figured you probably knew the person. So sad. It just doesn't pay to drink and drive.  :'(

We've had problems with kids drinking and driving. One of my clients teens was killed by some other drunk teens. Two years later when it came to trial, the judge slapped the boys on the wrists and told them to sin no more. That night the boys had a big celebration (with alcohol) down the street from my client's house. Her daughter is dead and they killers are celebrating....

Then we had a 17 year old girl drunk driver kill a family and the judge gave her 9 years and the whole town got their panties in a wad because they were ruining her life! She can't go to college like she planned.

I guess you just can't win on this one. But personally I think I side with the second judge. That was always a hard fast rule at our house -- if you have a drink (even one) you do NOT get in a vehicle (and you do NOT get in a vehicle with anyone who has HAD a drink) - you call Mama and she'll come get you. As far as I know Buddy STILL doesn't drive after he's had a drink and I know I don't. It's just not worth the risk.

Sorry about your friend Woobie...

Hugs BD

The consequences of drunk driving impact so many lives.  We hear the horrible and tragic stories nearly every day, yet the stupidity continues.  I will never understand the mindset of individuals that get behind the wheel impaired.

I'd pray that all drunk drivers develop an understanding that their selfish actions are destructive, but they must already know this - it's a decision that they make themselves   There are no excuses, these are truely senseless Tragedies.

Instead I pray that God watch over the innocent victims of such selfish acts.  That their families and friends find the strength needed to cope with such unnecessary tradgedy.  That we find ways to keep drunk drivers from operating vehicles by taking the decision to drive out of their hands when they are impaired.

So sorry to hear this Woobie. My heart and prayers go out to the family.  :'(

December 7th I lost a childhood friend who had been drinking with one of his co-workers, neither of them with seatbelts on. His friend drove into a telephone pole and my buddy Jeff was killed from massive internal injuries.

Drinking and driving KILLS!
If you are with someone who is drinking and insists on driving, do not go with them. Instead, try to get them a cab and if they refuse, tell them you will call the police if you get behind the wheel. Sure they may get pissed and you for awhile, maybe even hate you - but you just might save a life(s).

Peace,
Carl

I'm so sorry. It's such a sad story.

I believe in Sweden, if you are arrested for drunk driving, that's the last time you drive legally.

Barb,

That was the exact same rule in our house.  My brother would spend the night at his friend's house if they were drinking or one of the parents would drive them.  My mom always said that you could not drive if you had even ONE drop of alcohol.

I used to get upset though because my grandparents are the type who have to have their cocktail hour before dinner, and they used to even have about 5 drinks a night.  Not drunks by any means, but it's still alcoholism.  And since I was a small child, we'd have to ride in the car when my grandfather drove to and from the restaurants.  I'd ask my mom about it, and she just never wanted us to say anything.

Hard to teach your kids and respect your parents at the same time...  But it always bothered me.

At Penn State, I sometimes walked a mile home from parties (with friends) because we'd be out drinking and nobody wanted to drive.  And I was the designated driver lots of times for various things.  The risks are just too great....it's lives on the line...

Hugz,
Carrie

Tina,

There are no words to express the sadness to such a tragedy.

May God somehow guide her family through their loss.

hugs to you too my friend,
