Title: Now they've went and did it.....
Post by BarbaraD on Dec 16th, 2006, 6:50am
CA and FL have put a halt to executions because they're concerned that it may cause  "unconstitutional" pain to the inmates being put to death. Has anyone considered the "victims" pain and suffering as these people were "killing" them?

One guy took 24 minutes to die and they think he was in pain during this time. DUH? They can't use the Electric Chair cause their heads might catch on fire (had two that did), and can't use the gas chamber cause they can't breath too good. Guess we'll have to go back to hanging or firing squads. But I'm sure something is wrong with that -- probably cause psychological damage.

I'm not a big proponent of the death penalty, but in some cases I believe in it totally (murder being one of them). This guy who they think "suffered" raped and brutally killed a child. What about her constitional rights?

this article just got me riled up.

I just don't like executions. It's not a political or religious stance.

I wonder what "unconstitutional" pain feels like versus the "constitutional" variety...

Hmmmmm......

It was dentist Alfred Porter Southwick who saw an accidental electrocution and got an idea for his dentist chair.  8)

It was thought electrical current was quicker than the nerve currrent, they claimed, electrocution would ensure that the convict was unconsciious within seconds and would feel no pain.

Some names for it at the time the Electical Execution Act was signed in NY, June 4, 1888 by Gov Hill, were electromorsis, electricide, electricission, electrostrike and ampermort.
The sufficient current was unknown so a down-on-his-luck Philadelphian volunteered for $5000.00 paid to his wife to test it.

First to be sentenced at Auburn Prison, NY, William Kemmler who attacked lover Tillie Ziegler with an ax leaving 26 gashes in her skull.   After appeal for cruel and unusual punishment, Chief Justice Fuller of the Supreme Court ended the debate May 19, 1890 with the execution date of Aug 4.

Why don't they just give them twice as much of the stuff the first time? What's it gonna do, make them die too fast?

Oh don't you know -- that could be a shock to their system and leave them paranoid or something....

Charlie I used to feel as you do till a lady from my hometown (lived two blocks from my mother) was beaten to death in her home. The guy was caught and confessed. But 5 trials and 9 stays of excution and 25 years later they finally put him to sleep. And we footed the bill for it for 25 years while this guy just laughed about his deed. The City Council was meeting the night of his execution and they stopped the council meeting to announce that it was done. There was a standing ovation from the townspeople.

Her son was a friend of mine and I watched him almost lose his mind before the 25 years were thru and the deed was done. All because this no good *&^%%** thought his mother had some money in the house and he wanted it.

So for violent crimes, I'm now for the death penalty. Right or wrong -- some crimes just require it in my opinion.
