Title: Global warming???
Post by Paul98 on Dec 19th, 2006, 2:52pm
PC hype or natural climatic cycle?

How do you digest the following:

Flo, I'd enjoy your take on this but all are welcome comment ;;D

Initially I thought PC hype. But after seeing a couple of specials and reading up on it from scientist out of the political realm, it appears to be a real phenomina.

so, we start having warmer winters -- heating energy usage drops which drops the amount of CO2 suddenly and drastically -- (US energy use for heating this winter is down 25% this year alone). Then things get back on track.

Warmer winters, yes , but more artic ice melt , Larson B ice shelf collapsed this year and the sea will continue to rise. More and more people will have to move inland as coastal regions are flooded!

that's "glass half empty" thinking.... restated that is, "as new coastal regions are created."..............

by the way, ice shelves have been falling off into the ocean for millions of years....

So?

Mankind is so egocentric that we truly believe that this is something significant - because it might show some amount of change within our lifetime.

We're talking about geologic time here, folks. This shit happens all the time - and when I say "all the time," I ask you to step outside your own shoes and look at the globe with your geologic glasses on. Over the course of thousands and thousands of years, oceans rise and fall. Land masses come and go. It rains, then it stops raining. It heats up, then it cools down.

To believe that mankind has any significant amount of control over it is pure hogwash.

Oops, I forgot - one more thing: THE SKY IS FALLING! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

I once saw a show where the gentleman, a physist, drew a very long line. The line represented earths timeline from the very first organism to us, humans as we are now only took up about a quarter inch in this entire timeline. So I'm sure there has been many, many changes in climates. When was the last iceage??? Not to long ago I believe.

Paul's link, despite being from '91-'94, suggests a recent human influence.

Quote:
the climatic effects of solar variations are likely to be increasingly difficult to isolate in the future, as anthropogenic forcing becomes stronger.

Quote:
A high degree of correlation between surface temperatures and solar irradiance, or its proxies, can be expected only if solar variability has been the dominant source of climate change. This is probably not the case, especially in recent decades, when anthropogenic effects must have been making significant contributions.

Quote:
Schlesinger and Ramankutty [1992] in particular concluded that intercyclic variations in solar irradiance have probably been significant contributors, but that the dominant role has been played by increases in greenhouse gas emissions.

My response to this is to pay attention to those that heatedly insist that it's BS. It's always energy companies and businesses that depend on the current systems that do the most howling.

Oh yeah. I trust them.  ::)

Unless we control magma fields how did man do that? The ice shelf collapsed because of under sea volcanoes (http://news.siu.edu/focalpoint/july2004/story6.html) Don't believe all the crap the environmentalists tell you. Wait for the science to find out what is going on. What is everyone going to do if a mega volcano melts Antarctica in a months time. Better head for high ground now and don't care how much CO2 ( Not carbon which is a black powder, not a gas) you throw into the air to do it.

Oh and by the way Ice has more volume than water that means any floating ice that melts may lower sea levels. Of course the same doesn't go for ice on land.

Hell causes global warming.

Is Hell exothermic or endothermic (gives off heat or absorbs heat)?

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can therefore project that all souls will go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until "all Hell breaks loose".

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until "Hell freezes over".

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Mary Ann, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you", and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct... leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Mary Ann kept shouting "Oh my God."
