What was the best Holiday (PC) present you ever received?

Me, it was "Rockem-Sockem Robots" ;;D

Either that or a case of Miller High Life ;;D

What says you?

For my 18th birthday (which happens to be very, very close to Christmas) my folks got me a Remington 870 12-ga. shotgun. That was tres cool.

Edited to add: When I was 9, they got me a full-blown kiddie Packers uniform, with the jersey sporting none other than number 15. Now that I think about it, that was even cooler.

One year...the county police staff sent me some cash in the mail and gifts on my doorstep the year two child support checks were forged and cashed just before the holidays.

On another note,  I was told that with my erratic menstral cycles I'd never get pregnant.  The Thanksgiving after I got married, I was at a "Breakfast with Santa" with a neighbor and her 4 year old son.  Well this "Santa" asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I said...

"Santa..what I want you can't give me."  He said "Don't be so sure".  I again argued, and said.."what I want is not possible."  He again argued back...

I finally said ...for the sake of the son of my friend,  "Santa, You can't change it so that I can have a baby."

He whisperd in my ear...

"it's done"

not 4 weeks later, was Dylan conceved and my dream of being a Mom was borne...

All the doctors said I'd never concieve.  and I have two healthy and brilliant children. (in my eyes)

Holiday Miracle?

My Dad gave me an IOU for one Day's help in the Garden and my Mum gave an IOU for a day's help in the house.

Best EVER present and it didn't cost them anything apart from time.

I was spoiled rotten and dad loved it.  From a purely toys for little Charles perspective; it was the actual HO train set and layout that was on display in the Toy Shop window. It was called "The Toy Shop." He usually bought toys for me that he liked to play with too.

I got a Remington Wingmaster 870 12 gauge pump shotgun for Christmas when I was 15.  I was pretty sure I was getting it, but they broke it down and packed it in two different packages.  I was seriously disappointed when I didn't see that new shotgun laying there under the tree.  I had been using an old Harrington & Richardson .410 singleshot for years and was really looking forward to ditching the "kid's gun" and having a real shotgun.  Anyways, I moped about watching everyone else tear into their presents and finally worked up the steam to open mine.  I about fell out of my chair when I opened the first box and saw the main receiver.  Then the old man tossed me the second package containing the barrel.  I was a happy camper, uh hunter.  Quite a bit of the meat we ate at that time of my life came from the hunting I did.  I went out almost every day and brought home squirrels, rabbits, coons, doves, quail and/or the occasional duck for dinner.  I had done well enough with the singleshot, but I loved that new gun.

Was your ex name Shel?

Put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tire.
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea.
Then put another log on the fire babe,
And come & tell me why you're leaving me.

Mine was this year. It might not be considered a present in some senses of the word but it meant the world to me.

I love snow and its not something we get a great deal of here - and it never lasts above a couple of days but anyway..

A friend of mine sent me a link to a webcam because it was snowing, I sat here transfixed and the thoughtfulness nearly reduced me to tears (okay it did but I ain't tellin'!)

Both are a gift of life in my book and the Best Gift a Guy could ask for!

I think it was '54 or '55 when I "very importantly" explained to my parents that there was NO Santa. I also found the gifts I'd asked for (a record player that played all THREE speeds and was portable - it cost almost $20. And I showed my little brother where mama and daddy were hiding our Santa gifts. Geezz, I felt grown up....

Then one of Dad's friend's came by when my parent's weren't home and asked me to open the store room door so he could pick up the gifts he'd gotten his kids (who were my friends!). I did and he took my record player to give to his daughter and my brother's shoe-shine kit to give to his son. Well I was just totally crushed, hurt, dissapointed and just plain ready for Christmas to be over!

On Christmas morning under the tree was MY RECORD PLAYER ... Santa had come after all. And there was a record with it (Tenn. Ernie Ford) "You don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry".  I'll never forget that morning and that silly song playing on my new record player. But I NEVER doubted Santa after that.

When I was very young, 5 I think, I was in a foster home.  I really wanted a fire truck for Christmas and I woke up before everyone else in the house (there were about 10 other kids staying there) on Christmas day and snuck downstairs to have a peek.  Well, under the tree was this beautiful fire truck and sure enough it had a tag with my name on it.  Well, knowing I would get in trouble if i was caught downstairs before the others, I went back up to bed and waited for morning.

At the crack of dawn we were all called downstairs and waited patiently while the presents were handed out. When mama Flynn got to the fire truck, she anniounced that Santa had brought that for everyone.  I was absolutely crushed and angry.  I never forgot that as long as i lived. That event had a significant impact on my life, really not sure if it was good or bad.

I told that story to my X wife about 15 years ago, and the following Christmas, there was another bright, red.  shiny fire truck under the tree with my name on it.  I go to keep that one.

That is by far the best gift I ever got.

Some years were terribly hard growing up and some years were incredible.  So we usually didn't know if santa was going to make much of a stop or not...

One year my sis and I were dying for new 10speed bikes.  We woke up in the middle of thenight and started down stairs where unknown to us my dad and uncle were putting the bikes together in front of the tree.  When my uncle spotted us he jumped up, put his arms out and yells, "Get back to Bed, Santas here and your gonna scare him away and not get any presents"  We flew back upstairs to bed and didn't sleep hardly all night for fear we ruined xmas not just for ourselves but also for our two younger siblings.  Oh but when morning arrived what a wonderful surprise those bikes were.

Another fave present was twin cabbage patch dolls that santa finally brought after I had asked for them for multiple xmas' in a row.

On Dec, 25th when I was 13 my Dad got me a BB gun, which I promptly used to shoot out most of the basement windows.

On Dec 26th I no longer had a BB gun .

If I have to narrow it down to just one--no question about it, it would be my daughter (born on Christmas).  Didn't plan it that way, but it made for a memorable day. ;;D

Maybe that's why they call Dec. 26 "Boxing Day." The goddamned BB gun goes back in the box.
