Title: Christmas Story
Post by burnt-toast on Dec 22nd, 2006, 9:09am
Over the course of a year the parents of two young children had become increasingly moody.  They loved and cared for their children, but money issues were causing them to frequently overreact to the usual mischief children are prone to.  It was not a fun year for the children.

With money extremely tight, they became unusually upset when unable to find a roll of gold wrapping paper they had purchased to wrap the few presents they could afford.

They became even more upset on Christmas Eve when they noticed a shoebox with all of the gold wrapping paper pasted to it placed under the tree by their children.  The shoebox was the only wrapped present under the tree that year.

Nevertheless, filled with excitement the children brought the shoebox to their parents on Christmas morning, "This is for you, mommy and daddy!" they said.

Opening the box, they were somewhat embarrassed by their earlier anger.  But when they found it empty, said harshly, "The paper you wasted on this was bought to wrap presents.  When you give someone a present you’re supposed to put something in the package!"

Their children looked up at them with tears rolling from their eyes and said: "It's not empty, we blew kisses into it until it was all full."

Falling to their knees they hugged their precious children, for indeed that shoebox was the only gift worthy of the gold wrapping paper.  Their children had given the most precious gift of all, unconditional love.

Years later, whenever discouraged or facing difficult problems they open the shoebox, remove a precious kiss stored there and remember the gift of love they received that difficult Christmas.
